So does Boromirs horn count as a horn for the courage boosting for the army as well as he own personal rules? If so but i doubt i wont need a warhorn in the army. Thanks

No, unless the FAQ changed it.

Compare him to Imrahil:
Imrahil with Armored horse, lance: 155
Boromir with horse, shield, lance: 195
Imrahil has a 12in standfast and depending on your view, counts as a 12in banner for his specific troops.
Boromir has 3 more might and a good rule about that deals with enemies failing courage, except that this can easily be mitigated with enemy horns and is completely useless if he is fed a warrior a turn.
So, for 40 extra points, Boromir loses 12in standfast, limited banner ability (I would count these as a combined 15 pts or so) but gains a rule that can quite often be useless (5 pts) loses a point of defence on his horse (5pts) and gains 3 might (15pts). So, based off of Imrahil's stats, he should be 155-15+5-5+15=155. If you give his special rule that warhorn ability, he would be worth 175. While he may be powerful, he really isn't worth that much without at least a warhorn and maybe terror (one blast of the Horn of Gondor terrified a whole troop of Uruks at Amon Hen).

This is all true but I never said that he was good value for his points, a good bargain or the best choice, simply that he was good.

The simple fact is that certain special rules are worth more if held by a character. Boromir's banner for example (granted for another 50 points) is more valuable than a WOMT holding a banner as Boromir is harder to kill, never mind the special rule bonuses it has.

It's one of the reasons Erkenbrand is so good, not just that there's a +2 courage war horn, but that it's held by a 3 Might, D7, 2W, 1F hero who is hard to take down (when compared to a WOR).

Giving Boromir the war horn rule would be a frustrating way of giving the entire Gondor army +1 courage in a model that is hard to take down (again compared to a WOMT).

I guess what I'm saying is that heroes get better value for their points the more special rules/stat increases they gain, If Aragorn counted as a banner and a war horn it would be 'worth' more than the 45 points you would spend giving those items to normal warriors.

Anyway, this doesn't matter, it was a throwaway comment, not a serious complaint/analysis, I guess I've been hurt more by Boromir than Imrahil over the years :-)

Exactly. My point is that Boromir as is right now is paying 45 pts for his horn, when he only gets a 5pt ability. Adding the Hornblower ability to it, he is now paying 40 pts for what a normal warrior would pay 20. Which is in keeping with your comment. I however think he should also have terror, so he's paying 35pts for the warhorn, 5pts for the courage related winning, and 5 points for terror.

Not all hornblowers pay 20pts, Hunter Orcs, Grimmhammers, Erebor Warriors and Rivindelll Knight ay 30pts for a horn. That would affect your Boromir house rule.

Why would elves even need a horn?

No it wouldn't, the Minas Tirith army list only pays 20 pts. Either way, he would be paying at least 35pts for what every other model pays at least 20 pts for, at most 30. And that isn't including Erkenbrand.

The courage penalties don't stack though. And -1 courage for elves doesn't really affect them.

!!! Right you are, I just had to check. I knew it didn't stack for profiles (eg Balrog + wraith), but I thought the drum was special. I don't have the old books handy, was it ever different, or has my son been getting away with easy breaking all these years? :)
