Hey guys as title says ......
Is the rule that base cant slide between obstructions or is it that a minimum of three models have to be equally placed around the defensive model?

Ive had conflicting advice and me and Thermo had this pop up in a game last night.
(Which I got hammered in by the way, lol)

Example below

Technically it is because it has no where to go without moving the other figures. So unless it has won the fight it is trapped.

You could remove the lower two green models and it would still be trapped. As a matter of geometry you need three impassible points to trap something (three point define a plane yo!). The three obstacles could be anything (models, walls, pits, or as here the edge of the board).

Trapped. If the two top ones were at the widest part of the base, then maybe not.
A model counts as trapped if it cannot move away the full 1" without moving another model. 3 is the minimum amount of models to make this happen if positioned correctly.
Practically: If you can slide your model back the full 1" without moving any other models back at all, (they may spin in the spot), then you can take it as free. Its really good sports to just accept it as trapped though. Its also unlikely that people could push it along the surface so steadily as to not bump the others.

Agree, definitely trapped. Actually, you only need one model to trap with if the opponent is stuffed in a corner :)

As said - if the model cannot move without another model model (except for "Move Way" movements), it's trapped.

Adding on to this: Say you've got two enemies and a pit/ledge or some sort of drop surrounding this enemy. Are they trapped because they can't move out over the edge, or do they get pushed off of the edge and take falling damage?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Plus that's far more epic/cinematic!

I beleive they have a choice to either be trapped, or take normal strikes plus falling damage? Or was that changed in the hobbit rules?

I remember that being more along the lines of the losing model must roll a die 4+ they keep their footing and count as trapped, 1-3 they are hit with the normal strikes and fall

p39 of the Hobbit rules, the Loser Backs Away section: "However, a loser at the edge of a vertical drop, with nowhere else to Back Away to, must move off the edge. If the drop is equal to or less than the model's height, he suffers no damage. If the drop is greater than the height of the model, then the model suffers falling damage (pg 28)".

There is no clarifying paragraph in the Trapped section, so they are not "trapped" by a cliff, they just take normal strikes and falling damage (if applicable).

Not sure if it was different before, and the OR book is no longer handy :)

Alrighty then. Whether that is a change or not, it is now very bad to get trapped on a vertical drop; falling damage and strikes. :o
