Post subject:  How many Mounted models in a Warband?

I was just wondering as i have yet to find any info just in the source books it gives no evidence of the mounted limit of models per warband , from what im guessing from the way GW package cavalry its 5 or 6 per warband as rider + mount counts as 2 not 1 ?

Or is it that rider + Mount count as 1 so you can have 12 cavalry per warband?

Can anyone clear this up as ive been wondering what is the official stance on the warband limit for cavalry/ mounted models.

The sourcebook just show 5 cavalry and 1 hero , so im really confused.

I cannot believe this just got posted!
I was totally trying to figure it out last night.

My buddy and I ran some games, I just assumed it was 12.

Reading it over last night I could not confirm or refute this.

Cav models count as 1 model for model counts such as in Warbands

If you can find no specific rules for cavalry.. it simply means there are none. Whether it's a Hobbit archer, a Son of Eorl or a Cave Troll, they simply take up one place out of the twelve available.

Thing is a GW store manager told me they reboxed the LOTR in the form that each box of infantry or mounted you buy is one full warband and all you need is a hero to add etc. So by that logic could it be that 6 cavalry models = 12 foot models? food for thought.

Seeing as the LOTR and Hobbit is now boxed in 10-12 for foot and 6 for mounted models

Looks like GW need to released an FAQ for this.

Not really, just another case of a gw staff member not knowing the rules for the hobbit sbg!!!

He's incorrect according to GW's game rules. Cav count as one model (as I said above) GW used to sell packs of 12 but they cut all their packs in half to increase their margins

You can take up to 12 mounted models in a warband.

100%

Cavalry models have always come in boxes of 6. It's the infantry models that got repackaged to contain 1 warband.

You're right, I was thinking of the 2 Towers starter, I bought a couple of those cuz they were such a good deal

GW store managers are notorious for not knowing the rules for this game.

Anyway, cavalry is always considered one model, if you remember that it will help with other questions that might come up.

The horse is a piece of equipment - just like a bow or shield...

12 models, with mounts, is an acceptable warrior allowance for a warband.

The reason the boxes are 6 and 12 are because War of the Ring would give you 3 companies of cavalry or infantry (when infantry was still 24). Infantry had their boxes halved to make more money and to allow infantry warbands to be bought as a single box.

The reason there is nothing specific in the rules is because there is no change - it was considered unnecessary to add a clarification because they assumed people wouldn't question if a horse would count as an extra warrior arbitrarily. Then idiots employed by GW decided to be moronic (with the exception of me when I worked there) and muddied everyone's thinking.

It is always 12 model to a warband. Whether they be wargs, mounted, foot, trolls or ents the limit is 12 of any of these models and one hero per warband 8)

Unless you are taking the twins, Murin & Drar or a siege engine.

When taking twins/ M&D one of the heroes becomes a 'warrior' so they can only lead 11 other warriors.

Siege engines and their crew count as one space in a warband regardless of crew. So if you had a trebuchet with 10 crew, you could still take 11 other warriors and a hero in that warband.

Just to confuse things even more

No, that's good, you have clarified some more things that I was previously unaware of :)

Confusing indeed, as I'm quite sure that the rules state that both the siege engine itself and any crew each take up a place, not take up one place in total. So a trebuchet with 10 crew would leave place for a single model...
