My question is: if a banner bearer dies while being in contact with a troop model other that a Warrior (ex. other than a Dwarf Warrior, Warrior of Minas Tirith etc.) of his faction, can the adjacent model pick up the banner? In the rule book it states that a Warrior (capitalized: thus I am assuming a model of that particular troop type), can carry the banner if the initial bearer dies. What do you thing is meant? Does it take it to mean any troop type or just Warriors? Thank you for your time |

A Warrior (with a capital letter) is simply a non-Hero. Titles of the troop type aren't of importance: otherwise, a High Elf Warrior could pick up a banner, while one upgraded to become a King's Guard couldn't! |

My interpretation of this has always been that "Warrior" refers to any Warrior, including those that do not have banners listed in their profile. The section on banners in the rules manual (page 72) states: "Swap the models over, or find a suitable banner-carrying substitute in your collection." To me, "suitableā¦ substitute" implies that a model for this particular situation may not exist (passing a banner onto an Uruk-hai Berserker, Khazad Guard etc.), so a proxy model is sufficient. |

So...could a Minas Tirith ally pick up an Elf banner? An orc pick up an Uruk Hai banner? The ruling on this could decide a win or loss on a certain points match scenario. Realistically, I'd say Yes. In the heat of battle, a banner could be held aloft by any ally of any race... Any rules against that? |

I agree with kinsman... As long as its agreed between the players. I don't think that named hero's or monsters (Trolls) etc should be allowed....Only bog standard troops. But then can't use two handed/bows etc. |

Indeed, any friendly Warrior can pick up the banner - which isn't too strange thematically, they are allies after all. And otherwise, where would the distinction lie? Mordor Orcs can pick up banners of Morannon Orcs, but not Mordor Uruk-hai? Possible in the case of Mordor-Uruk-hai, but not Orcs that happen to be from the Isengard list? Nah, much easier to just follow the rules and have it so that the banner can be transferred to all allied Warriors. You could limit it to models of the same list, or same race, but the normal rules should work fine in the vast majority of the cases. Lord of Winterfell wrote: I don't think that named hero's or monsters (Trolls) etc should be allowed.... Heroes (named or otherwise) can't get the banners anyway. Non-hero monsters can in fact get the banner in theory, but would you want your Mordor Troll to have a -1 penalty on winning fights? |

My mate converted a wose warrior to have an arnor banner when he went to doubles this year( wose + arnor) just in case he was able to pick it up. |
