Just a general query on this effect...

If a mounted Hero suffers a rend attack from a monster, and survives, would he be considered unhorsed afterwards?

I had a game yesterday where a troll Chieftain won a fight against Glorfindel mounted on Asfaloth. Chose to Rend, then rolled 1,2 and a 3. So one wound on Glorfindel. Assuming the troll picked him up and attempted to pull him apart, I would assume the horse would have bolted,... but its not explicit in the rules...

Any thoughts...?
Cheers
Scott

I would say no, since it's only on the hero and not against the horse, the horse would not take any damage or automatically run away.

Rend is purely for singling characters out and causing wounds - one person's defenition of a monster rending its strength vs that of an opponent may differ from another person's - its more from a game design standpoint and separating the traits of the standard BPAs.

It would have no effect on the mount unless you chose to rend all of your strikes against the mount. If you killed the mount due to rending it, the rider would be thrown.

Hurl is intended to dismount opponents but risks not wounding the targetted character as effectively.

Although it may seem logical to have the mount flee in terror, it doesn't state that anywhere in the rules or FAQ, so we just assume the horse has some b**ls and watches his rider get torn apart.

Agreed. Fluff and logic would suggest he gets dismounted but it doesn't say so anywhere in the rules so if the rider survives he stays on his gee-gee.
