Hi there, Me and a friend have started playing SBG again and have some questions regarding charging into already existing combats. 1.) If, for example, the evil side had priority and two orc warriors charged into one warrior of minas tirith, then when its the good sides turn to move, a different warrior of minas tirith charges one of the orcs already engaged in combat. Does the combat then turn into 2 seperate combats with an orc vs a warrior and an orc vs the warrior OR does the player with priority get to choose who is involved in which combat. 2.) If say a rider of rohan charges an orc warrior to recieve the 2 calvary bonuses, what then happens if a warg rider charges into the combat on the evil players move phase. Does this negate the calvary bonuses the rider of rohan would have since the warg rider has the same base size OR does the rider of rohan keep his charge bonuses since the warg rider joined the charge later. Thanks in advance for any help! |

The basic rule is that combats should always be 1:1 if possible. Combats are ALWAYS X:1. So in your example above, you would divide the fight in to two separate 1:1 combats. If on the other hand three orcs charged the Warrior of MT, and subsequently another WoMT counter-charged in to base to base with two of the three orcs, you would divide the fight in to one 1:1 fight and one 1:2 fight. Whoever had priority would choose which way the "swing-orc" would go. In the second example the rules state that in order to get the charge bonus the model must "remain in base to base contact exclusively with models on foot when the combat is resolved"*. So yes, a counter-charge by another cavalry model would negate the original model's charge bonus. *paraphrased |

Can you get non X:1 fights with supporting models using spears/pikes? e.g. An Uruk hai with sword charges a Warrior of Minas Tirith, and then a second Uruk Hai moves into base with his ally using a pike: currently 2 vs 1. When it is good's turn to move, another WoMT with spear is moved. He is too far away to make it into base to base contact with an Uruk Hai, but makes it into base with his own ally: it is now 2 vs 2. Are the supporting models both moved to one side so they can duel (which possibly moves them further than they were allowed to go) or do they stay in place and fight 2 vs 2? If this is the case, then it could conceivably become 3 vs 3 if both sides have access to pikes? |

Even with spears it is basically 1 vs. 1, because the supporting models aren't really fighting (mention that this means you can shout at supporting models without shouting into close combat), they are only adding 1 attack each to the combat. But an other question: Faramir on horse calls a heroic move, attacks an orc. In the move phase of evil, a wargrider charges in, in the move phase of good a warrior of Minas Thrit charges the warg rider. Does Faramir (who isn't in close combat with the wargrider any more) gets his boni, I'd say yes, but want to be sure. |

Yes, because regardless of how the combats are split up, he still charged that combat phase. From memory, the only way a model can loose its charge bonus is if another cavalry model joins the fight, or if it somehow looses it's mount before the combat phase begins. |
