In what order do you choose which model will do special strikes or shielding. IN the rules it only says "before any duel rolls", it says nothing about in what order, or if you are allowed to change your desition based on your opponents choice.

Example
Orc with shield vs Khazad guard
Orc player: I will shield
Dwarf player: Then I will go twohanded with piercing strike
Orc player: Then I will feint
Dwarf player: Then I will strike normally.

So who chooses first? I would say the player with priority chooses and no takes back.

Have fun

Nope you should do it like heroics. Player without priority should declare first, then the player with priority counters. There has to be an element of risk with these strikes to keep them balanced.

There's no evidence to support it but generally I'd just say person with priority picks which fight and special strike to use, and then the opponent reacts with his special strike. There can't be take backs or changing your mind in the same way you can't re roll a dice just because you don't like the results :)

Can be seen that the model with priority is getting ready to strike and his opponent model reacts accordingly on body language and skill. Or in case of a goblin..luck.

The banners have a similar thing but it's explained at least.

To SouthernDunedain: Is that explained somewhere in the rules or is just the thing which makes most sence to most people?
I am not arguing against it, just wanna know where it came from to play it like that.
I absolutley agree that there should be an element of risk when deciding special strikes.

The thing about takes back I merely put in there becasuse there was no reference to it in the rules, either way.
have fun

Nothing in the rules, just makes the most sense 8) tbh, I tend to declare at the start of the game that every model will special strike unless I say otherwise and people are fine with it.

Honestly, my own opinion would be that priority does not matter.

Player A: Are you going to do any special strikes?
Player B: Not at this time
Player A: hmm, well I'm going to choose to feint.
Player B: In that case I will Shield.

Once declared, off you go.

Alternatively,
Player A: Are you going to do any special strikes?
Player B: Not at this time
Player A: Well I'm not going to declare one unless you do
Player B: Well in that case neither of us will special strike, so shall we fight the dual then?

Bit like heroic actions. Heroic combat and Heroic strike, neither side has to declare first but once an action is declared the opponent may choose to counter if he wishes.

Player A: Ok combat, any heroics?
Player B: Not right now
Player A: Well I'm going to heroic combat
Player B: Cool, I'll call a heroic strike and shield
Player A: Ok, then I'll use a piercing strike as well

Player A could swap places in this conversation with player B, essentially the person who has to declare first is the person that wants that action to happen more, if both players are waiting for the other to declare first and neither will declare until they hear the other speak....then you just fight without anything special....or wait forever as there is no requirement for one person to go first.
As long as each person has an opportunity to declare their strike or action and once declared their opponent has a chance to counter, I think its fine.

That's how I see it anyhow

Really, I'm pretty sure that's not what they said when they gave me the white coat and proceeded to reject my ideas for research :P
