I have been thinking about the Blackroot vale Command blister, and was wondering if they could be used for standard Gondor or Arnor rangers? Especially as they are used for a Gondor army in the Citadel 2012 painting guide. I have the Kingdoms of Men sourcebook as well as the latest Errata’s, and there is nothing in them about it. Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't see why not in a friendly game. The only question is does Gondor have an appropriate model they could represent? I don't know of a generic Gondor captain without heavy armor

I know there is not a generic captain model for the Gondor rangers, I am just wondering if the hornblower and/or banner bearer could be used for a Minas Tirith army.

I guess in a friendly game you could proxy them and use the warrior of Minas Tirith profile with those models; however, as Rangers of Gondor can not in fact take anything other than a spear or upgrade to Ithilien Guard, you may not use them in competetive play at a tournament for example, because they are not supposed to have either banners or horns. If you want one in your army of Gondor, you're going to have to use bog standard warriors of Minas Tirith.

For friendly games, you could always create a Gondor Ranger Captain profile: What you could do is take use the Captain of Minas Tirith profile, reduce the defence to 5 but give him a bow and 3+ shoot value, keeping him at the same points value. Take away the options for a shield and lance, but maybe keep the horse option if you want to. Then give him the option to upgrade to an Ithilien Ranger captain for 5 points to give him Woodland Creature. Just messing around with an existing profile but might be nice to use with the hornblower as a proxy as no other ranger has a horn (pretend he's issuing signals with it or something).

technically, a ranger can pick up a banner from a fallen banner bearer should they be in base contact with him when he dies, so you'd be able to use the ranger banner bearer legally in this scenario :P

Yeah, that's a really good point!
