Hi guys, it's been a while since I last posted on this website. You know, life and other unpleasant stuff.
Now, I have a question regarding abilities like the Balrog's whip, and the spells Call Winds and Sorcerous blast. How do they work when their target is already involved in a duel?
In my group, we ruled that the magic can still target a model and knock him down but it remains in combat, while in the Balrog's Whip case it's the monster that has to join the fight, following the rules for throwing weapons.

How it has been ruled in the UK? Can any effect remove a model from combat without actually killing it?

Well, the Watcher in the Water, for instance, I beleive explicitly states it can do this. I beleive the Balrog's whip only pulls in the shoot phase, otherwise it IS a throwing weapon in the move phase. I don't use magic much, so sorry, but I cannot help with that last bit.
