S6 is usually immune to knockdown "unless the mount is S6 or higher". So, I think Mumakil can't be knocked down due to a specific rule, and I thought I read something about other Montrous Mounts can't be... Need to check that. Few other things are S6 and not mounts; Balrogs, trolls...what else?

Yes, I won: Major Victory in Lords of Battle---but only because I killed it in one round. If it survived, its whipping tail revenge hits would have tipped the scales, robbing me of 7 VP (six wounds, one fate) and giving him at least VP, maybe three, plus surviving to kill again. Great game, with a gracious player. Doesn't get better.

Monstrous mounts get around that, but I thought that the Cave Drake counted as a monstrous mount, negating the Knockdown.

It has the knockdown like a montrous mount, but it isn't a mount.

Oh, so no extra attack on the charge, right?

I don't think monstrous mounts ever get an extra attack.

Right. That was the call at this tournement; Montrous Mounts get that bonus on everything except against other Montrous Mounts, same as Cavalry vs Cavalry.

Im sorry but this whole concept of fell beast knocking drake to the ground is absurd, the drake gets all the bonuses of MM except extra attack: ie it knocks anything except mumakil, and other monstrous mounts to the ground and thats final, it counts in all but that one respect as equal to a fell beast, shelob, chariot, dragon etc...

'If a cave drake charges into combat, it knocks ennemy models to the ground in the SAME WAY as a monstrous mount (see ORB or MoM)'
Read page 51 mines of moria, on monstous mounts second paragraph

They don't say it is a monstrous mount because it isn't a mount per say and because they don't want drakes and dragons (it is an identical rule) to get the extra attack for charging as they unlike fb's have 3 and 4 attack basic.

To sum up Dragons and Drakes can only be thrown to the ground via mumak or spell.

It might be absurd, because the rules don't always translate well into Middle Earth reality. The rules sometimes leave grey areas so we rely on consensus of interpretation and wait for a FAQ to clarify.

But this does not seem like a grey area. The Designers make a clear distinction between Montrous Mounts and other models that get to use one or more (but not all) advantages. It is clearly not just lack of a rider. The wording is very speciific per model which advantages can be used (and therefore which cannot). Cave Drake does not get Extra Attack or immunity from knockdown that a real Montrous Mount does.

I wish it did. Then knocking it down (therefore trappping it) would not be so dangerous with that vicous tail attack rule.
