Post subject:  moria tactics

In about a month, my friend is having a tourny, and i have never played with my moria army before, and im not sure what tactics to use. This is the army, 400 point tourny.

MORIA
-Gablin captain
-2 cave trolls, one with chain
-40 gobblin warriors, 13 with spear, 13 with shield, 14 with bow

I know the one captain is pretty bad, but i really wanted a large number of troops and both my trolls. If anybody has any good tactics for this army that would be greta, thanks

I think you'd be better off with Durburz and one troll, but since you wanted two, eg:

Durburz - 60 points
Troll w/ chain - 85 points
Troll - 80 points
12 Goblins w/ bow - 60
12 Goblins w/ shield - 60
11 Goblins w/ spear - 55

400 points, 38 Models, 3 Might, 11 bows

Personally though I wouldn't even bother with bows. Your trolls are the key, they need to be guarded until they can get into combat. Goblin bows suck, even against wood elves, and later on you'll wish they had spears. Prowlers have throwing weapons, better fight and backstab, so I'd some of them and form squads, eg:

Durburz - 60 points
Troll w/chain - 85 points
Troll - 80 points
14 Goblins w/shield - 70 points
14 Goblins w/spear - 70 points
5 Prowlers w/ 2H - 35 points

400 points, 36 models, 3 Might

If you can bear to part with it, drop the second troll, add a captain and more prowlers or a bat swarm, eg:

Durburz - 60 points
Goblin Capt w/ shield - 40 points
Troll w/chain - 85 points
15 Goblins w/shield - 75 points
14 Goblins w/spear - 70 points
10 Prowlers w/ 2H - 70 points - OR - 5 Prowlers + Bat Swarm - 70 points

400 points, 38-42 models, 5 Might

This gives you more models to play on the Goblin's main strength: numbers.

I have only ever played the Moria Goblins and through my experience I have found that if you are going to play with bows then you gotta have a minimum or 15 or none at all, especially if you are going up against a shooting army like elves. I much prefer a 50/50 ratio of shields and spears for my warrior ranks and let my Trolls do their thing with chains. And if you are using captains always give them the sword and shield, giving them 6 defense and the ability to shield in a combat is a lot better then a crummy 5+ shot with a S2 bow. And always always have drummers if you are playing a big enough game. The rerolls are more then worth it not to mention the buffs to making courage checks.
