Post subject: | Cavalry-to-leader ratios? |
In another post someone said they thought 12 cavalry led by one hero was too much. Since I've only had one box of each type of cavalry I own, 6 has always been the limit. But now I have 12 RoR and I want to use them Anybody have insight on a good max number of cavalry-to-leader ratios? I know some of it might depend on the rest of the army, so say 500-600 points with a good core of infantry with their own hero. |

Yes, it was me who said that. I like to try and have 1 Might per 2-3 Riders. That way, you know you can get the majority of them into battle with a timely Heroic Move. I generally take Erkenbrand, a Captain and 10 Riders as my cavalry contingent. |

I'd suggest taking enough heroes to make sure all cavalry are in range for making heroic moves. |

I'm with Farmer Maggot. You just want to make sure that you have enough heroes for everyone to get out of trouble if you happen to lose Priority at an inopportune time. |

I 3rd that - take enough heroes so that ALL the riders can benefit from heroics, also they get stand fasts too later on. |

Also if you add a banner on horse to them , it will sertainly make a great addition , since YOU REALLY REALLY want to win... |

Okay, so the general consensus is around 1 captain per box. Hmmm, I guess I need another captain... |

Controversial opinion alert!!! It depends on the intended use. Let me explain my self before I get spanked. If your cavalry is a hammer, if you want to use them to cause as much spiky death as possible, yes you need a hero, the more might the better (or Gandalf who offers a measure of arrow protection and some might). If however your horsies are playing a secondary role, e.g. counter chargers protecting a flank, or last turn objective grabbers then not having a hero can be more beneficial than having one, again, let me elaborate. If you were on the other side of two cavalry formations both with four knights and one lead by Faramir which would you think is the bigger threat? Which would you think will launch an attack next turn? So which would you shoot first? Oh and Corsair kudos on the excellent sig! |
