Hi I was just looking for some advice regarding whether throwing spears are worth taking in all mounted rohan force, the extra points per model is going to reduce model count in an already small force but then throwing spears are quite cool, what are peoples opinions about their worth?

I don't think it's worth it if everybody have throwing spears (I usually forget to use them when I play...), but if only some rohirrim have throwing spears, I think it can be worth it.

guess you should do the math.

say you have 12 rohirrim with Trowing Spears. hit on 4+, so 6 hit. strength 3 so you'll wound an average defence of 4 or 5 on a 5 . this means you'll kill 2.

say this were orks, then 2x6 =12 points killed, for 12x2=24 points of your own.
on the other side, if it are uruk crossbowmen, you'll kill 2x11=22 points.

also you can use them several times, but only if you have the charge. however, in an all cavalry force, you'll usually make sure you have the charge, so i think you should take 'm.

I wouldn't equip your whole force with them, especially not for low point games, but I would encourage you to take some, they can be really useful (as Phantom_Lord's maths proves)! :)

I would say they are quite useful. 1 box of rohirrim provides u with 8 throwing spearmen. A useful number in small forces and additional boxes provides more in larger games.

Honestly, I find throwing weapons more useful than bows. I think they're better because they have a higher strength. I would recommend taking some, even though they have shorter range. Throwing a weapon as you charge into combat is very useful in my opinion.

Take them, 7 throwing spears will kill more than one ROR will, and its a psycological deterent for enemy movingto within 6" of your line knowing that they could get severely mauled by volley's of throwing spears. They are also good for rooting out infantry trying to play safe in difficult ground. They are also fantastic in scenario's where you come on as reinforcements, throwing spears will allow all your models to shoot when they arrive.
Yes, arm the lot - I do.

don't give them to much most of the time you'll forget to use them or not get the opportunity to. there more of a lucky kill every now and a gain
