Post subject: | House rule Assasinator |
Hi, i made a profile for a assasin for any army you would like him in (an army hires a assasin to kill the enemies leader or just troops). Critics are welcome assasin: F/sv s d a w c M W F 6/3+ 4 4 3 2 6 1 3 1 PTS: 105 Sword, Hand crossbow(poisoned) and elven cloak. Moves 8". No stand fast. Hand crossbow: A unique invention of the assassin, the hand held crossbow is almost as strong as a normal crossbow, but is much easier to shoot with. Range: 16" Str: 3 Counts as throwing weapon, but if he dont move ha can shoot with it twice. Poisoned: se cargan-poison. Cargan-poison on his blade: Like the poisoned rules for haradrim bows, and morgul blade effect too (only works at heroes, but with no limited effect). Hidden: The assassin is like a invicible spy who dont kill the target before the chaos of war has broken out (or else he would have been executed) The assassin starts within 6" of a chosen enemy hero, and counts as invicible. He cant fight until the war has started (roud three), but then he can chagre. Prenatural agilities. So, what do you think (basicly a little like hasharin, only with new special effects and a bit magic) |

What's wrong with the Hasharin? I could understand this for another army, but why for one that already has a character fulfilling this role? And the smoke bombs confuse me. Why not just lift the rule from Dalamyr? How would the smoke cause damage? "Oh gods, it's coiling around meeee! |

Assasinator? Terminator + Assasin? I don't see anything wrong with the hasharin and Dalamyr, so I don't think these rules have really any point (but cool idea, nothing wrong with that) I guess i just wouldn't use them. Assassin...a...tor? Okay then. So, why DOES he have magic? There seems to be no fluff behind it. And the smoke bombs... So, what, does he just carry it around? Is it blinding light for only one turn? How do your allies see the enemies through the smoke? Why DOES the smoke hurt people, much less only your enemies and not your allies? And if he's like an assassin, is there a reason he doesn't have Bane of Kings or Preternatural Agility? |

You still haven't answered my questions... If you can justify the stats/rules you've given him, then great, but I want to know exactly what your logic is. |

It would seem that this is the only logic behind it... Gorb@g wrote: basicly a little like hasharin, only with new special effects and a bit magic
Yes, definitely a little like a hasharin, as he doesn't have the special rules that would undoubtedly be part of his trade... |

I'm not going to quote my post, but I would like to add a question to it: why do the smoke bombs halve the enemy movement? And why doesn't it affect your troops? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I just want to see the logic/fluff behind it. Most special rules have some of that; the Osgiliath Veterans profile says why they get an increase to F value around Faramir/Boromir. It's not extravagant, but it makes senses and tells us why. That's all I'm asking for: why does he do/have such-and-such? If you can explain it, then that's awesome. If you find that you can't, maybe it should be altered or removed. That's my general rule for custom characters, anyway. |

the new device from apple - "It'll do the thinking for you!" The smoke bombs are a unique ability to dalamyr, and letting almost everyone like this have them makes it less special - even if the rule isn't quite the same as dalamyrs. |

If I were to make an Assassin up for LotR, I'd give him an elven cloak, no armour, some cool named poison that acts like a morgul blade (with more than one attack/use) and a special rule that allows him to start hidden (like ambushers from WotR but allowed to charge) Stats wise I'd go for the high Fv, C and S, but only 2 attacks and wounds, 1/M, 3/W, 0/F, maby a high move rate, also they sould have no "Stand Fast!", they don't make great leaders But thats IMO, as to me assassins are a one hit wonder, they run in, kill some one inportant and then get the hell outa there! All the other trinkets would add weight, slowing the assassin down |
