Although frightening and good-looking the Dead of Dunharrow are rarely found as whole armies due to their lack of variety. I have created some new types of dead warriors to go on top of the basic WoTD, RoTD, and the King of the Dead.

Dead Scouts : These usually being lighter and more mobile than the common warrior of the dead, the quick and breath-taking figures move silently through the night.

Points Cost : 15

The Dead Scouts count as being armed with hand-weapons regardless of what equipment they are actually carrying.

F S D A W C
3/- 2 6 1 1 6

Special Rules :

Silent Strike : Dead scouts are incredibly mobile. Not only do they count as having the cave dwellers rule, but they move a faster 8” rather than the normal 6.

Terror

Blades of the Dead

Howlers : These warriors are the brutes of the dead king. Not as trusted as the King’s guard, but certainly just as dangerous, they are strong fighters with brave hearts and a courage breaking howl.

Points Cost : 25

The Howlers count as being armed with hand-weapons regardless of what equipment they are actually carrying.

F S D A W C
3/ 4 7 2 1 7

Special rules:

Howl : They are called Howlers for a reason, and even the greatest hero’s in middle-earth will fall to such terror! Any warriors within 6” of a howler may not benefit from a hero’s stand fast, and have -1 courage.

Terror

Blades of the Dead

Note: Howlers are rare, frightening warriors, and only few are ever selected to fight for the the King and his captains. To represent this you may only ever have 5 Howlers for every 1 hero in the Dead of Dunharrow.

Guard of the King : These are the bodyguard selected by the King himself. They are feisty warriors with strong hearts and extremely loyal to their King.

Points Cost : 20

The Guard of the King count as being armed with hand-weapons regardless of what they are actually carrying.
F S D A W C
3/- 3 7 1 1 7

Special Rules :

Loyalty : The Guard of the King are strong and loyal to him. To represent they loyalty, if the King of the Dead is within 6” of them at the start of the move phase, they automatically pass any courage tests they are acquired to take, and step up to the mark to fight for their king. For the rest of the turn the Guard of the King gain +1 Fight Value, and +1 Strength.

Terror

Blades of the Dead

I hope you like the rules. Feedback is much appreciated. Also .. are there already rules for a Captain of the Dead in SBG?

Do you have any ideas for conversions or do you know any other manufacturers that have fitting minis? :)

Very good profiles,

I really like the Guards idea, (but I guess you forgot to add: Blades of the Dead?)

The scouts are well-priced, and their Blades of the Dead should make their S2 not to low, I'd probaly take some of those

The Howlers are excellent rules, only I fear a little underpriced, their Howl is a valuable asset after the enemy force broke,so I'd suggest either to increase cost or to drop the Stand Fast bit of the Howl
even just War Aspect is very powerfull at the good side!

btw does anyone know when the progile for Ghostly Warriors will be published for evil?

cheers
Philippe

I'm still thinking about conversions, but I'll let you know :) Yes, I did forget the blades of the dead rule .. (there's always something!). What do you think would be a good points cost for the Howlers baring in mind you would only ever need a few to wreck an opponents force when it's broken?

how many points would Miasmatic Presence of the Tainted be worth?
Around 20 pts I believe, so it would be 45 more or less, perhaps make him a hero with 1 Fate to increase to 50 pts?

another thing
what about a AotD sorcerer?

Something like

Sorcerer of the Dead (100 pts)

F S D A W C M/W/F
2 2 6 1 2 7 1 3 1

Special rules

Will of the Oathbreakers
The Sorcerers of the dead have long been waiting for this moment, and trained their will power accordingly, the Sorcerers o/t Dead gain 1 free will / turn

Blades of the Dead
Terror

I stand alone
the SotD are strong and willfull terrifying even their friends, as such the SotD do not grand a standfast

MP
Transfix 4+
Compel 5+
Drain Courage 3+
Faltering Stare 5+
To stare a SotD into its eyes is to falter, and leave your followers behind without guidance, a hero affected by Faltering Stare loses all his Might he had left

perhaps time to start an article onekoolness, a shiny new Dead of Dunharrow army list?

Wow.. I really like those sorcerers. I don't know however if they are underpriced a little. To make someone lose all their might is devastating (especially if your Aragorn or Boromir!). Then again.. you could maybe lower their fight value to 2 to make clear that they aren't trained to fight. Otherwise I really like them, and as you said, I may create this into an article. Can you submit articles now.. I know it hasn't been working for a while.

lowered F and S
price cost is IMHO right
Faltering Stare should be somwhere around Sap Will
remember it only drains the pool, Aragorn would still have mighty hero
while to Boromir it would be no worse then Sap Will to Gandalf
and the SotD is not that good a caster (DC3+, TR4+, CO, FS5+)

remembering good old days where artickes were a more prominent part of the GW website I created another profile

Son of the Dead King (100 pts)

F S D A W C M/W/F
4 4 6 1 2 5 0/3/1

Blades of the Dead
Terror

Doom of Isildur
Isildur cursed the oathbreakers and all of their kin and all they come in contact with
If the Son of the Dead King is involved in a fight in which an enemy dies roll a D6, on a 3+ an WotD is placed at the former place of the enemy, representing the fact that Isildurs curse is passed on to others

I've based this on an Angmar House Rule of GW which I rather liked:
The Revenant, though I lost the specific rules :(

Hey, Theonekoolness, do you think that eBob's skeletons could be used for conversions?

Also, shouldn't army of the dead have some archers?

I think your right. I'll try and create profiles for archers. I think Ebobs Skeletons are good but we're not really looking for skeletons, we're just looking at green guys!

If you create archers, watch out for the point cost,

they should be at 20, and 5 points for lets says elf bow 4+, spear and missiles of the dead?

btw would there be any people out there who weren't content with their kings desicion to forsake Isildur?
this would make for a hero with a special rule thats shamanlike

so take for instance

(Unknown named hero)

F S D A W C M/W/F
3 4 4 1 2 7 0/3/3

Wargear: hand weapons

Special Rules
Blades of the dead
Terror

In search of Redemption
... is sorrowfull for the betrayal of Isildur, and spurs on everyone to right the wrongs they make, where he/she comes the will to regain honor is redoubled, to represent this, every model of the Dead of Dunharrow list within 14cm/7" of ... is treated as automatically pass ervery courage test, in addition eacht time one of them suffers a hit roll a D6, on a 5+ the wound is immediatly discalculated just as if a point of fate has been used, to represent their redoubled hope on salvation

I just always wanted to make a Special Rule with the name In Seaarch of Redemption  , don't know wether it is a good idea though

Thanks for all your comments guys. I am currently creating an article on the Army of the Dead, with all the new profiles and a couple of Soul Chilling army lists! Would it be ok if I use the sorcerer Adanedhel? Thanks alot guys, I'll make sure I give you all the credit :)

I thought the whole point of the AotD was that they were a very specialised and one-shot force.

Filling in all the 'blanks' in the list is a bit like amending Dwarf Warrior profiles to give them spears...

the difference is that though dwarfs are very playable,
the AotD is just to specialised to work,
I mean its evil brother (Angmar) has so much possibilieties, varying from Orcs over numerous wraiths (though admittedly an all-wraith army wouldn't work)and even trolls and wargs, and now with WOTR the AotD will swiftly become an option to the SBG too and no-one would want to play DoD anymore, only Angmar

though, Gaarew, your right that DoD shouldn't be an allequiped list, :(
perhaps it would be good not to use archer or spearcarrying dead after all :(
but the profiles like Howlers, Scouts and Guard are nice additions :yay: and somehow can fit the theme (especially those Howlers) as can Sorcerers
