Post subject:  Lugdush (SBG House Profile)

I am in the process of collecting an Isengard scout army using metal scouts, metal orcs, metal warg riders, Sharku, Grishnakh, Ugluk, Lurtz etc. Basically the uruk-hai force that was sent to retrieve the ring, the orcs that met them on their way back to Isengard and some warg riders to represent the force that was sent to ambush the rohirrim on their way to Helms Deep.

Anyway, I've also decided to convert myself a Lugdush. I intend on using one of the metal scouts and remove the shield with a razor saw, sculpt over any damage that might be made and give him the axe from one of the old metal orcs (which looks quite similar to the uruk scout axe on the very very rare scout model).

Anyway, if I am going to make myself this model, I want to be able to use it if I actually (and this would be a rare occurrence) played a game, so I've also decided to make a statline for Lugdush as well. He's nothing overly powerful or special, more like an Uruk-hai Scout version of Beregond to the Citadel Guard or Damrod to the Rangers of Ithilien. It will be a while before I actually get round to converting this mini as I need supplies first and also have a couple of other projects I'd like to do first, but I thought I'd post what I have for statlines so far so that the people who are good at this stuff can let me know if it's good or bad and what would need changing as besides my Corsair Battle Company rules, I've never really made any house rules before.

Here's what I have:

Lugdush

F - 4/4+
S - 4
D - 5
A - 1
W - 1
C - 4
M - 1
W - 1
F - 1

Lugdush is an Uruk-Hai scout equipped with armor and a 2-handed axe.

Points Cost: 30

S5? x

I thought about S5 as well as A2 and W2 but decided to leave them lower to be more like a standard Uruk-Hai scout, and just have the low M/W/F making him stand out as a hero, but at the same time only a very minor hero, as that's what I want him to be. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to give him S5 and up the points cost an extra 5 points, as he does have a 2-handed axe so should be fairly aggressive.

If you compare him to a RotN he's expensive. S5 and 25 points is probably fair. I'm assuming he has a normal hand weapon in addition to his 2H axe?

Oh right okay thanks. I was using a character profile creator I found online for the points costs, so I guess it's just a bit off. Yes he will have a hand weapon as well, forgot to include that in the description. So, revised profile:

Lugdush

F - 4/4+
S - 5
D - 5
A - 1
W - 1
C - 4
M - 1
W - 1
F - 1

Lugdush is an Uruk-Hai scout equipped with armor, a hand weapon and a 2-handed axe.

Points Cost: 25

Hmm, howabout no -1 penalty when wielding two handed?

So he can wound D7 on a 4+, and D9 on a 5+ with no penalty? Overkill IMHO.

If he only has one attack, it is very unlikely he will be winning with a 2h weapon enough to kill more than a few models. Thrydan can inflict up to 12 wounds in one turn and people don't call him overpowered.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I'll give him that ability. Like I said, I only want him to be a low profile cheap hero, stronger than a standard warrior yet less powerful than a captain. Cheers guys.

One question, why does he have a Shoot Value? :P

But anyway i would say keep him at 30pts but give him a second attack, make him a bit deadlier than the average Uruk Scout.

Forgot to remove that, I used an online character generator and it gave him a shoot value :P

I remember when a friend did that, factored in a 3+ Shoot, put the model on the table and began to game.
Shoot phase of turn one i asked him:
'why does you character have a 3+ Shoot?'
'because he has......... a hand weapon and a shield'
#begin slow clapping#

Though as for Uruk Heroes i planned to make a Uruk Hai Captain of the Berserkers, basically an Uruk Hai Captain with a two handed weapon, heavy armour for the resilience to pain and an extra attack just to keep him in line with Berzerker stats. Now to work out one for a scout captain, maybe a bit of Expert Shot, 3+ Shoot and an Orc Bow for that lighter Vrasku.

Well the Scout one i will make, like the idea of a sort of Uruk Haldir, perhaps to rival Lurtz.

The profile i had in mind was:
M -6"
F - 4/3+
S - 4
D - 5
A - 2
W - 2
C - 4
M - 3
W - 1
F - 1

Kit: Orc Bow, Hand Weapon, Armour.

Special Rules: Expert Shot

He is somewhat less powerful than an Uruk Captain as he is a shooter, not a fighter and his extra point of Might will be used to call Heroic Shoots with his other Uruk Scouts with Orc Bows. Now to work out a points cost (thinking around 55-60pts, as he has lower stats but more Might and a good rule) and a name.

Perhaps give him one attack and the "backstabbers" rule from the goblin prowlers. Also howabout a rule in which he may call a "heroic fire" which allows him and every friendly bloke within 3"of him to shoot their bows at the beginning of the movement phase, before anyone has moved (this means they cannot shoot in the shoot phase). A fun restriction could be that this is the ONLY heroic action he is allowed to call, and it cannot be copied by gothmog.

Post subject:  Re: Lugdush (SBG House Profile)

I don't think Backstabbers would fit in with the character, however maybe a limit of 1 Attack might help.

As for the heroic fire that sounds a little too good for a lowly Captain with a bit extra skill with his bow, may just keep him as above but with one less attack. Can't really think of any other rules, aside from maybe a 'if (insert name here) scores a Hit but fails to Wound then the target model must pass a Courage test or got to ground, like a Thrown Rider' make him a little more to fear.
