Greetings, everyone!

I have finally published my latest update of the Battle Companies rules. It is not complete, as I have several things to add to it, but it's good enough to publish and I can add other things as we go along. I look forward to hearing of your Battle Company's progress and welcome any feedback. Click the link below to download the file.

Looks good, love the artwork, just wish their were enough people who played lotr/hobbit aty my gaming club to make a battle companies campaign worth it.

I've just had a read through of this there in the last hour and it's a really great resource. Thanks very much for the huge effort you've put into it. If it wasn't for your blog I probably wouldn't have played a game of BC at this point and now with these updated rules, I'm really looking forward to getting more games in.

I'm particularly happy that you have the rules for the company standard because I hadn't seen them before and my brother and I had been discussing house rules to implement the banners in our own games. Now we don't have to worry about that! I also love the idea that a scenario could have it's objective turned on its head by the death of the standard bearer! Ambush suddenly becomes capture the flag!!

Also I've a suggestion. I know that in one of the White Dwarf magazines there were profiles done out for Fiefdom troops who appeared in the book but who GW never released miniatures of. These were warriors of Pinneth Gelin, Ringlo Vale and Wardens of Pelargir. They also had examples of how to convert and mix and match existing models to construct these guys. Might possibly be worth a look to add more variety to the Fiefdom BCs?
I think they also had some different evil profiles in that article as well.

Thanks, guys. I'm glad that you all are pleased with your Christmas present!

@Zarathustra Suicine -- Battle Companies are a GREAT way to get new players interested, especially if you can provide the models that they need to get started for a couple games. Then make them buy their own box! I didn't include any house rules profiles, but if you and your opponents wanted to include an elite troop type for Númenóreans, it would be an easy enough tweak. The images come from the almighty Google *wink wink, nudge nudge, Bob's your uncle**

@Zirak-Zigil -- I remember the article with all of the Fiefdom troops. I intentionally limited myself to using profiles that were in the latest GW publications as they are the most up-to-date and easily accessible to all players. You could certainly add them in, with your opponent's permission!

The scout one is a bit cartoony.

Thanks Erunion. Great Job I'm sure everyone agrees.
I did notice when reading it that page 9 seemed to end on a sentance that didn't finish? Maybe it was just me. :o

Also the Far Harad Battle Compan details the Warrior Pride Rules, which has now been scrapped, do the numbers take into account their nerf aswell, as they seem quite low?

Brilliant! This is an incredible resource, and it's clear that you've put a ton of time into it. I look forward to reading it in more depth. Only suggestion at first glance would be to bump up the max number of models for the Goblin Town BC.

Great work mate. It's obvious you've put a lot of time and effort into making this so thumbs up to you. After reading it through a couple of times there's a couple of problems (which is actually way less than I expected from a supplement this detailed).

1) This has already been mentioned, on page 9 "Forfeiting the Game" ends mid-sentence. I think that might have something to do with the large picture underneath?
2) The Wargear Cost table is (at least for me) a bit hard to understand. The cost is quoted at, for example, 1/5 for a spear etc. My understanding is that the first value (1) is for a hero with Wounds + Attacks < 3 and the second (5) is for heroes with Wounds + Attacks >= 3. If this is right a key would be helpful in the table above points values eg: A+W<3 / A+W>=3. If this understanding is completely wrong then more clarity is needed.
3) "Additionally, the smaller Company receives one extra Gold for every full 15 points
of difference in ratings after the game." Does this mean the battle company rating after the game or they get gold after the game for the difference in ratings before the game?
4) "In addition, a Battle Company that possesses a Company
Standard gains +1 Gold for each victory. However, a Company
with a Standard that is defeated grants +1 Gold to its opponent." - So the losing Company gives one of their gold to the victors or the victors just get an extra gold?
5) With regards to Concealing Cloaks, I don't think it's logical to lose the effect after shooting but that's just a personal opinion. I also don't think it's logical to end the effects of the cloak but if you've included that rule to prevent a heavily cloaked Company from being OP then fair enough.
6) Does a model with a Scourge get to use the Whorl special strike?
7) As Scouts do not count towards a companies Roster Limit do they also not count towards the bow limit?
8) With the Special Rules, do these have to be gained by rolling a 5 on the hero advancement table?

I hope you appreciate that most of these points are not mistakes but small points where clarification is needed. I'm not criticising your work, in fact I think it's excellent, I just think that these things will end up being FAQs and due to your advantage of producing an online resource they can be quickly modified to prevent confusion. Again, really great resource and I hope to be playing a Battle Companies game ASAP.

@rickybobby17b -- Somehow, I broke the link on the post. It should be available to download now. Sorry, guys!

@highlordell -- Yes, the image cut off the end of that sentence. Good catch on the Warrior Pride reference. I'd forgotten about the nerf to Far Harad, so I may have to tweak their Faction Page. I'll fix those in the next edition.

@Gildor Inglorion -- That was the intention, but I forgot to copy and paste that text onto the page. I'll fix that as well.

@Domyhill -- I'll address your questions and try to make things a little clearer for the next edition:
1) See above.
2) You are correct about the wargear costs.
3) They get the gold after the game, win or lose, for the difference in ratings before the game. This is to help them overcome the extra losses they will most likely incur.
4) The victors receive an extra gold. In a normal game between evenly matched companies the victor gets 4 gold and the loser 2 gold. If Company A had a standard and won, they would get 5 gold and the loser 2, but if they lost they would receive 2 and the opponent would get 5. If both companies had standards, the victor would receive +2 gold.
5) They lose the benefit for game balance, and to keep concealing cloaks from being as powerful as Elven cloaks.
6) Yes, they would be able to whirl.
7) They would not count against the bow limit.
8.) Yes, rolling a 5 on the Hero Advancement Table gives access to the Faction's special rules.
