Post subject:  King Theoden House Profile

I think it's fair to say that the profile GW made for Théoden is one of the few instances where they have seriously failed to capture the character's essence. I can at least understand their reasoning for a weaker Théoden in The Two Towers, but another profile representing the King at the Pelennor is in my eyes necessary. So here it is (please feel free to offer feedback and any constructive criticism) :)

Théoden, King of the Rohirrim 110 points
M6, F5, S4, D7, A2, W2, C6, 3 Might, 2 Will, 2 Fate.
Wargear: Heavy armour, shield, armoured horse.
Special Rules: Expert Rider.
Now for Wrath, Now for Ruin: All warriors and heroes from the Rohan army list who are within 6" of Théoden treat him as a banner.

I like the profile! I think it is very balanced and really captures the essence of a respected King. I really have nothing to add to this to improve it

I really like your point of view to theoden and i cant agree more, altho for this points you give him i would say increase the range of the banner rule to 12'' :D

I'd maybe add a courage, strength, or fight value to those Rohirim around him, or maybe one of the above coupled with a fate save roll.

I was just comparing this to Suladan, and it seems incredibly well balanced!
I would like to see a unique special rule, perhaps something like that mentioned above.
If you're going to extend the banner range (to the same as Imrahil), then remember to increase the points. :P

Great job sir! :)

I like it but I'd be tempted to give him 1 fate if this is meant to represent him at the Pelennor. He does die, after all!

I believe the one rule a theoden profile for the pelannor needs is "Theoden is allowed to call a Herioc Move every turn without expending might" - This would symbolise the Rohan charge across he fields - I'd add this to your profile above for a cost of 15-20 points. Then i think you would have a Theoden that perfectly captures who he was at his mightiest.

It's a great profile, I like that you've restrained yourself with the profile. A lot of people would demand that he should be F6 and have 3 attacks but as an old man a 2 attack F5 profile is definitely appropriate. It's well balanced fun and fluffy, can't see anyone complaining about it. The only thing I'd say is that you've actually overcosted him. I imagine you've worked from his current fully equipped profile of 90 points and then added the other bits on? As Theoden is currently 10 points too expensive your profile should actually balance out at 105 points, it's not a huge change but it makes him that little bit more tempting.

Good work though!

Except the banner is double range and worth 20-30 points on its own. I think it's costed fairly.

Poor Theoden, someone at GW didn't like the old yet mighty king! I would probably use the rules for the King of Men for him. Simple and balanced in my opinion.
