If you were aiming to get reeds then I'd recommend hairs from an old brush.

Don't worry, that happens ^^
I'd definitely recommend to get finer brushes though. Your smalles brush is far too big for details like faces or fine lines.
Try to get maybe the fine detail brush from citadel or something comparable if not even smaller.. you will see how this already helps you improving your skills :)

Rognarr- I just spent a heap of money on miniatures so it might be a while before I get a new brush set but once I have the money I will probably get one :)

Aye, I know the feeling. It shouldn't cost too much to get a new brush though... I managed to get a multipack of some really decent brushes at a local card shop for just £2, one of which is a really nice size 2/0 brush that I now use for pretty much everything 8)

For example, you can have sizes 5,4,3,2,1,0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0 or 10/0. The bigger the number the bigger the brush

Some companies go 3, 2, 1, 0, 00, 000, 0000, etc...btw. :)

Ah, right. Thanks for the clarification.

They could use some foliage around them, how about green tea leaves? Cheap, plentiful, and looks nice.

I've now finished Legolas :D I've tried to make him look like he is patrolling his Mirkwood home :) I'll upload some close-ups when I get back from soccer :)

Here are some close-ups of Legolas :) As you can see I tried to paint his lips with a peachy shade of light red which I don't think turned out too well :( . Anyways I am quite pleased with the overall product. :D

Sorry about the double post but no one has commented on my last post :(

Anyway I've decided to colour code the bases so that the main category (eg. The Free Peoples) is the main colour around the base and the sub-category (eg. Durin's Folk) is the colour of a line on the front and back. If this is confusing don't worry I'll add pictures later :)

This is the code I'm using:

Kindoms of Men: White
Arnor: Dark Green
Minas Tirith: Gold
Rohan: Light Green
The Flefdoms: Light Blue
Númenor: Dark Blue

The Free People: Dark Green
Durin's Folk: Red
Eregion & Rivendell: Gold
Lothlorien & Mirkwood: Light Blue
The Fellowship: Black
The Shire: Light Green
The Wanderers in the Wild: Dark Blue
The White Council: White

Moria & Angmar: Red
Moria: Black
Angmar: Dark Green

The Fallen Realms: Dark Blue
Harad & Umbar: Purple
Isengard: White
The Eastern Kingdoms: Gold

Mordor: Black
Mordor: Red

So with Legolas the main colour band on his base is Dark Green because he is part of the Free Peoples and his stripe is black because he is part of the fellowship :)

I like that timber :) gave me some ideas for basing :)

I also recommend small brush like "00" i bought it for 3€ in art store (since i don't have any hobby shops in country - so i must be good in improvising :) )

Keep up with painting, it's always going to be better with practice (i know how i painted few years ago) ;)
