Really nice. How did you get the pavement effect on the base?

wow, thanks for all the comments guys! I really appreciate it, especially coming from such talented people!

@Hannibal. Yes it is WS clump-foliage. Light Green. I also have WS underbrush in medium green, although its not on these bases. I tend to use more dull and decaying colors for evil, and more vibrant colors for good.

@DomyHill. I used greenstuff. I rolled it out across the base. At tip from UKFreddyBear, I used a pen as a rolling pin to flatten it out good with no finger prints. Then I made the brick pattern using the blade of a hobby knife.

Okay cool, do you think the same technique would work for patches of pavement (rather than the whole base) to give a ruined city vibe? I think the way you've done it really suits the knights of Gondor really well though seeing as they're from the block paving capital of Middle Earth!

oh yeah, I have done that a few times. I just make the patch a bit bigger than what I really want to show so I can blend the sand in with the edges.

Do you have to let the greenstuff set a little before scoring the detail?

I will defer to Dave for the best practice...but no I do not. I find that GS is vary workable and holds it shape well right after being mixed. So I do what ever I am going to do right after I mix it up. Bear in mind this is the traditional two-part yellow and blue make greenstuff that I am talking about, not the liquid GS. I have never used the liquid GS, although the comments vary on the forum, I think you will find more negative than positive comments about liquid GS.

Thanks for all the help, I've had a crack at some tiles and I've found wetting my knife really helps. My banner is pretty shoddy but the tiles are looking good. I guess that's what good council does for someone inexperienced. Thanks a lot, you've been a great source of inspiration. Now get back to work so I can steal more of your ideas!!! :D

I like their raggedy pelt - it adds to the savagery.
KOMT - excellent. That scene from RotK where the KOMT ride slowly down to the First Gate, with the haunting music in the background - unforgettable.

Thanks again for all the comments guys!

Here is a conversion Dave did for me. I spent about 9 hours painting it and didn't even realize it. Can't thank you enough Dave for the incredible work.

Wonderful conversion. Congrats on having such a nice piece. On top of that, you've done a great job painting it. I especially like the shield. The blue and gold complement each other nicely, and the basing looks great too.

Smashing!

Dave's skills are becoming that of legend !
A nice colour scheme and as always a wonderfully constructed base. I have an area for you to look at. The finish to the cloak seems a bit grainy. Are you thinning your paints ? Or is this a result of a spray undercoat ?
I think that if you can sort this issue you will be on your way to painting better by producing a smoother finish.

Another conversion by Dave here. I had a lot of fun with the base and freehand work on this guy.

Another piece I would want on my shelf. I think that makes it most of your dioramas so far.
