Thanks for the comments everyone!

So it takes 5 days for greenstuff to dry in 6 degree F temperatures...

On the other hand, we got snowed into the house again, so I managed to get quite a lot of painting done.

Here's some of the Wargs base coated and with the first layer of highlights on them. Tried to post it up yesterday, but then we lost power.
Image

Wild Warg Chieftain all painted up - rocks not done yet, only primed

Tan Warg

and, for all that are currently done, the Warg Pack! (dark photo - srry)

The riders are waiting until I get to the orcs, so they're in the same color scheme.

We loved the idea of the snowy base, but I'm not sure which of these styles to go with:

Mourn Mountain snow, the cracked-earth paint, or snow over cracked Image

I'll be highlighting up the Dwarve's cloth parts a bit more next, and trying to figure out how to make the Grim Hammer's stand out among the others. Then I'll be tackling either my Hobbit Army or going after some of the elves.

Well, I am glad I found this thread (there are so many these days). Two contributors! I like the painting - the dwarves can be tweaked a little if you want, but the Wargs are fantastic. And you have lots of them (to me a pack is not half a dozen - 15 to 20 is more like it). The Wild Warg Chieftan is magnificent - one of GW's best efforts (we have had a few marvellous renditions over the years).
Looking forward to seeing more. If the lighting is a problem, maybe try one of the milk jug style light boxes - they are working wonders for many of the other guys on the site. Make sure the camera is very steady and check the minimum focussing distance.

Very nice work and it just goes to show it isn't all bad getting snowed in.

Nice! Of the bases, I'd go for the one on the far right. Having the mix of colours makes it stand out a bit more.

I went with the patchy snow over cracked earth for the Wargs, and probably will do the same for the Dwarves. Not sure about the others - we're probably going to base them to match their 'home' boards.

Finished (but not sealed) Wargs!

When I went to pick up the snow paint (thanks for the recommendation Galanur!), I ended up with a free pot of Gehennia's Gold that a kid had managed to open and spilled the liquid part, not the metallic part, all over his winter coat.

Since I wanted to try the new color, and had to add medium to it anyways to stop it from drying out, I decided that Elves are up!

Image

One of the High Elf Archers had his bow broken off above his hand during our move that I'll have to fix before painting, but I'm having real problems with my armored Glorfindel. He was broken when he arrived from GW a year ago, but at the point we didn't know they were so good about returns. As you can see his sword is snapped off right at his hand. We've tried citadel glue, super glue, and greenstuff - cleaning it off completely between attempts. I'd love to use this figure as it was a gift, but don't know how to get him together!

Image

Thanks!

I'd recommend trying to pin it with a very thin drill and very thin bit of wire.

Drill a hole vertically into the sword and into the hand area. Superglue a small piece of wire into the sword and then superglue that into the drilled hand.

Crazy, my Glorfindel's sword broke in the same way, I used superglue.

My Glorfindel sword broke as well. My repair is not that hard.

1 Take a Last Alliance Elf and cut off his arms. I used the one with the higher sword
Image

2 Cut the hilt of the sword to lose the lower hand. Cut the upper arm to a length and angle that will work for Glorfindel new arm.
Image

3 On Glorfindel, Cut away his arm, almost all the way to the elbow, but you have to leave a little of the forearm there as a glue point. Try to get a flat cut at an angle to work with the new arm.

4 Cut away the pommel of his sword from his cloak. File flat anything left over from the pommel on the cloak.

5 Glue his new arm and sword in place. Glue forearm to elbow and bottom of hilt to his cloak.

It's not a hard conversion. Cut the Last Alliance elf arm first, cause it's easy to get another one. Less so with getting Glorfindel.

Sorry for lack of update, temporarily lost camera

Base coated most of the High Elves, skin and hair are next on the list. The guy in front got his silvering done, the rest haven't yet. I'll be putting more layers on them tonight, hopefully getting to the shading and highlighting of at least the swordsmen.

Image

This guy broke during our move after being primed, I don't have the bow piece anymore so I'm planning on drilling out the bow completely and making one out of copper wire as best as I can.

Image

Still working my way up to Glorfindel, afraid of messing him up - the whole reason I don't have any named characters done yet...

Your snow bases are very nice; especially the third from the left: very realistic base.

Having found the original Wargs somewhat lacking in appearance (should Wargs look cuddly?), we're always on the lookout for other good looking wolves to add some variance to the pack. Those Fenrisian Wolves are by far the best we've found yet!

All but the broken elf are now base-coated, and four of the swordsmen have had some shading done. Sorry about the shiny photos - the paint takes longer to dry when its sub-zero outside, so they were still wet.

The Warg had to be touched up on his side due to a fall off of his shelf, and now he's in for a fight!

The new Hobbit Feral Wargs may be of your liking.

Someone could make a fortune creating 'bits' to repair broken minis - not just LotR but others as well. Swords, bows, spears and axes - all the thin stuff really.

I really wish they would!

Will be picking up some of those next time we place an order. The Feral Warg Riders were odd looking, but the wargs were fun to paint, even if I did have to paint the fur on.

Finished 4 of the High Elf Swordsmen (half way done!), the others are in various stages of highlighting.
