That Gimli does look very regal :) Since he is Lord of the Glittering Caves though I thought that on his base there could be some precious gems or something :)

Bifur is the best I've seen that model painted.

Gloin is amazing too. However, I think you need to put a bit more silver into the white highlight on the axes, and also, his Red leather jacket is a bit too bright in places compared to other parts of the jacket. This only needs to be darkened a bit, though.

Thanks mate, glad you like 'em. I forgot to mention that that was actually the main thing I wanted C&C on  :)

What about them did you specially like/dislike?

Thank you :-D I was going for the SENMM effect on the axes (sorry, I should have elaborated) so probably no metalics... what did you mean by more silver in the highlights?
I think you're right about darkening the shadows of the jacket... I'll get 'round to it in the next update (he's still very WiP atm).

Thanks man.. I've mostly been taking pics with my flashy new DSLR since the last update, I still have numerous projects on the go including Dwalin, A mounted Gandalf, EfGT Gandalf and plenty of SSNNOOOWW :-D

Gloin needs to look a wee bit more grumpy but I am not sure how you would manage that. The only negative for me is the axe-heads - in the movies they tend to be a dark finish, almost like the finish on a firearm, rather than having any bright reflective finish. The painting is very good - better than I can manage!

I think you should go for a smoother transistor on the axes if you want to use NMM, and I also believe you could use some more extreme highlights, and deciede where the source of light will be from and go from there =)

Meh, in the end I decided to scrap the SENMM and do it normally... but now I'm having more wash problems 8l
oh dear dear dear...

I've been feeling a bit more motivated today so once thing get going again there should be quite a good supply of updates for a while yet.

Coming up soon: Dwalin, Gloin, EFGT Gandalf, Unpainted mounted Aragorn sculpt and a Painted mounted Gandalf sculpt :D

PS sorry for all the procrastination of the latter two on the list, I'm really bad at saying I'll do something and then completely forgetting about it. If there's anything you want to see done please remind me of it.

But he's gone for a SENMM look (sky-earth NMM) - means that the metal is meant to look very reflective and you see the sky and the earth in that reflection. Thats why there isn't a smooth transition between the darker and lighter colours, you see a darker reflection of the earth below and a lighter reflection of the sky above, separated by the horizon.

As SENMM goes, I think its worked perfectly well... my only criticism is that I don't think its a great effect for weapons. I understand it could work for highly polished armour, but I just don't see a weapon being that reflective, sorry ^^

Still, its painted really well in my opinion :)

Looks great as usual but why did you base him with snow but not the others? Just curious.
