Minas Tirith, City of Kings. Well, inspired by Billy's (Gorgoroth) great work and before that the beautiful scenery created by paul (paulf), I have decided to also undertake this fantastic challenge. The white, circular walls, the forever winding streets, the iron gates... the imagery from the movies was stunning. And i hope to be able to create this. And I hope to be able to create even half against such predecessors of beautiful work. I will warn you know, this will be a LONG undertaking, even though i only plan on building a sliver of the full city, it will none the less take a poor college study a very long time indeed. But as first order of business. One of the Gates of minas tirith: and i decided Id try my had at making them lock as they did in the movie: the fronts of the gate still needs alot of work, 15mm statues for the smaller recesses and bolts here and there. comments are welcome! |

Very nice work, Gondor's Finest. I'm sure this will look fantastic when finished. Out of curiosity, what is the model you used for the statue? Keep up the great work, and don't let the length of the project daunt you, I'm sure it'll turn out great. |

Great work so far Gondor's Finest; a lot of detail! Looking forward to seeing more. Longbottom Leaf wrote: Out of curiosity, what is the model you used for the statue?
I'm pretty sure it's a Numenorian Warrior. |

Great work so far! your already past me... although I spend heaps of time planning. Gondor's Finest wrote: anyone know how i can cut the bricks above the gate to make a perfect curve with the arch? I have ideas but they all make it hard
Well, I just got whole sections of card and glue it on, then draw the bricks on, then cut along the lines with a knife, so it was easy for me. Also, how tall is it, and how wide will the walls be? |

It looks about 8-9" high. Wow, Gondor's Finest, it looks great! Stones are all perfectly square and the same size, it's also nicely uniform. (Kind of redundant, aren't I?) |

Except for the bottom line. |

Oh..... I personally think they look fine, but yes, it is a tad structurally flawed.... |

I ment that the bottom-most layer of bricks are considerably smaller than the others |

dang overly critical of the bricks are we? the thought i was having was the bottom most bricks would serve as the foundation. being set into the earth. so they would be the same size as the rest or larger, just in the ground... and I noticed one of the bricks was out of place and fixed it since the pics were posted... oh and gorgoroth, I actually started before you, just didnt have much incentive until now. |

oh, ok thats why they're smaller. |

well it took me a while to find this in the archives seeing as i haven't posted in quite some time... but i thought i would post the update of how far i have gotten... the whole city... closeup of the "closer to being finished" gates... notice that i redid the bricks. the narrower ones will be black marble stripes as shown in the movie... as always praise and criticism is always welcome... |
