Post subject: | Amon Sul Mini Diorama(updated Feb 18 2010) |
Hello guys. Here's my latest project. I always wanted to make a weathertop diorama for the longest time so finally now I have the chance. It's not going to be big but I shall try to add as much detail as possible. First I did a sketch of what I visualized. There will be five characters in total. The second picture are the figures and the foundation of the diorama. This project will last a while here-longer that what I did before so I'm pretty excited about it. I hope you guys like it. I made some progress by painting the first figure of Frodo Baggins. The video is below. Frodo video-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rH8IN1Y0CQ video More to come. I shall keep you guys updated. |

The plan so far looks great. I can't think of how, but if you could paint it in such a way that made it look like nighttime it would look stunning. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it.I'm now more inspired to make this a really good dio. Here's some latest progress on the next character Samwise Gamgee. I don't know why but he's one of my favourite mini's. I 'm pretty much done with the head. This time round I used Vallejo Brown Sand as the Basecolor for the skin. And this is the pic of Frodo model as well. More coming up soon. Thanks for watching. |

Very nice! I'm painting those exact same minis, but I think you're doing a better job than I am. |

Very nice painting on both guys but the only things I doesn't like are the eyes of sam and the glow on sting cause at that moment there are no orcs near. But it's stil fantastic |

The light colours really fit them. The glow is nice but as hero of gondor said, it really doesn't fit. Sam eyes should have more of a frightened look on them than one of determination as he has only just left the shire and is meeting the Nazgul for the first time. |

I agree with DLOEL, but not too scared. Sam was almost fearless in his devotion to Frodo--heck, he more or less charged a Nazgul in TTT--but he should look a little scared, I agree. |

Hi guys, thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate all of them-whether you agree or disagree. Differences of opinions are a mercy. It made me really go back and add the tiniest detail that I can. @missu-Thanks for your kind comments mate. @Anduril Blade of King- Thanks so much. We all try to learn from each other and grow from these. @hero of gondor-Yes, I was hoping someone mentioned that. I really thought about it b4 this. I really can't help painting sting glowing because it would make Frodo more interesting in this scene. Thanks for having "eyes of a hawk". @King Elessar the Uniter-Thank you mate. Some more figures to come. I'm glad you enjoyed it! @The Last Ranger-Thanks for the comment mate. @Dwarf Lord of Ered Luin-Thanks.The glow to sting was purposely done to add the extra flavor to the diorama although it was not in the original story. I think you will see my point when all the figures are together. @Anduril Blade of Kings- I agree to that mate. I've added the facial details in the video. Hey I hope I did good-all stuff done with the naked eye this time round. Really pushed my eyeballs.8D Video link below friends, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCe_4ezYJsQ:lol: Still some more parts to come. I hope I don't make you all tired of waiting too long. |

Very nice! Superb model! The only "criticism" I have is that his cloak is very bright on the outer side and it clashes with the rest of the fairly bright/yellow-coloured details on his back - I think I would have painted the cloak slightly darker... Great work though and I eagerly await the next installment to this project! |

ive definitely been eying this tread, im looking forward to seeing you start on the base. the figures are beautiful as usual! I agree with you decision to have sting glow. although not correct, it certainly adds more character to the figure and a color im sure would never have been present otherwise. |

I just wanted to pop in and say that I am watching this thread with anticipation, Shriff. The concept is great! The preliminary sketch is great. It has a good atmosphere to it, and I think that the terrain will really help capture the feel of that part of the book/movie. This is shaping up to be one awesome diorama. Also, the hobbits look great. Sam's clothing really fits his day-laborer background, while Frodo's brighter, cleaner clothes are fitting for a country gentleman. |

I too will be watching this thread with great anticipation, the concept is very nice indeed. I have always wanted to do one of these myself, but.... well actually I think there is not an actual excuse for that one... hmmm. Cant wait to see this completed, everything is looking very nice so far. Keep it up! KJ |
