I am intrigued by the idea of fielding some Dunlending warriors beside my Urak hai, but I am NOT happy with the price of the pewter miniatures. I do not play in tournament so I do not care if they are "legal"

Sadly the Wild men int he films looked to me like a cross between the "What's in your wallet" guys, some weekend Live Action Role Players, and refugees from a biker bar. They also dressed all in black, as did all races of orcs, and the Gondorians. The stat lines for the warriors had them as armored and they can use shields, two handed weapons and bows (But no spears)
A month or so ago I got a single sprue of Wargames Factory 28 mm Vikings. I promptly began to steal the weapons to convert Rohanians since they are perfect sized. I built a couple of the Vikings and painted them just for fun. They are a good match for the LOTR figures, a little bulkier (And I know the wild men were supposed to be smaller according to some sets but these guys to me look the part)

They are described in the books as wearing capes. After building the first few I tried a fur cape out of Pro create (Which I much prefer for making fur and hair to green or brown stuff/Kneadatite)
I will take a picture of one with an LOTR figure for scale once I get the first test model painted.
I used weapons from GWs plastic sprues and a few have heads taken from the Flagellant sprue as well as the "hair head" sprue. I have sculpted longer hair on the Wargames Factory vikings as they are very well groomed for "wild men"!

the last shot is three basic warriors. I already primed 5 of them so I cannot show those until the paint jobs are done

nice, although they do look a bit bulky and if you can imagine them as people living in the wild they seem a bit to well dressed, as in full sets of clothing and the like. But other then that really good

I like the idea of using plastics to flesh out the numbers of Dunlendings, though they were not the only human foes of the West. I think the Gripping Beast vikings offer a great variety at good prices so they gould be used too.

I think it will add a nice variation, because lets face, not everyone is 5'10" tall and medium build. So for an army you need some big fellas in amongst the hordes. History is littered with references of 'giants' and the like.
When you have done can you post some pictures of these with your regular Dunlendings, it would be great to compare.

Maybe all that "Wild men" talk was just Rohanian Propaganda, you know they way the Romans tried to make the Celts or anyone else they fought look like total barbarians and such.

If nothing else they'll make interesting brigands or barbarians for my D&D game

Here are a few more done. Capes were made from Pro Create epoxy putty.
Decided to add some white hands since Saruman got them all stirred up in the first place
