I've not done one of these before but I've enjoyed lots of other people's so I hope you find this interesting too. To start with is my entry for the April painting challenge: Gothmog, but converted to be used as siege bow crew. His head is Gorbag's and the spear is an uruk hai pike. And here is the rest of Gorbag. I've given him the head off a plastic orc and repositioned his arms to make him hold a spear made from a piece of metal rod. Cheers Tom |

Great stuff, love what you've done with gorbag. Looking forward to seeing more, particularly if you plan on converting more orcs |

I've not been great at getting stuff up here - sorry. Real life took over. Anyway, some of you may have seem my completed Gothmog conversion in the April challenge, but if not, here it is again: Also, the Gorbag conversion has progressed @Raukov - you asked about other orc conversions so I grabbed a few out of a box (the painting was a bit rushed for a game a while back, but they may give you some ideas. Orc Shaman (converted from Saruman) and a orc with two-handed weapon/ catapukt crew These two were very quick. The "horn-blower" was to go with a group of orcs in tartan kilts (in "honour" of the ridiculous clansmen paint scheme from GW). It is meant as a bit of a joke. The drummer just had his arms repositioned and a barrel to hit. Finally an orc captain converted from a spare Grishnakh (head and weapon/arm swap) and an orc with two handed weapon. Hope they give you some ideas. I have some more orcs to convert. I need some more siege crew for a siege game coming up, another horn blower and I'm sure I'll think of some more. Cheers Tom |

Great conversions and lovely painting I really like the bagpipe one as well, was it greenstuffed? The shaman is pretty nifty as well. Cyndra the Grey |

Yes - the bagpipes were just a ball of green stuff with some bits of pins stuck in it. Really simple and still makes me smile! |

my main criticism would be that the halves of the shaman's spear don't line up. like, at all |

I'm with you there Raukov! When I made the conversion it fitted fine, I glued it, sprayed and only noticed it had moved after painting lots of it. I'm afraid I was lazy and didn't bother fixing it and now no longer notice it. Thanks for all your kind comments everyone - I'll try and get some more stuff up soon. |

Well, I've been rubbish at updating this - must get into the habit of taking photos when I paint. Following the new releases (most of which I really like) I thought I'd make my own versions of things I was never planning on buying. First up the Warg Marauder. I'm not a fan of the model, but I had some broken stuff in my bitz box and a few minutes later shoved this together. It's nothing special, and I'm sure someone with more time and skill could do more with it, but I still prefer it to the flying one. The painting was pretty rushed (essentially base coat and washes), so may go back at some point and touch it up. (Who am I trying to kid?) Secondly, I had some time this afternoon while child number 2 was asleep, so I made myself a King's Huntsman (I already had the metal Rohan command box). The body is from a Theoden, plastic Boromir's head and bow arm and sword hilt from a WoR (unsure why these bits are red, it was from an ebay lot). Since taking the picture I've greenstuffed a bigger beard to cover up the neck join. |

Great Idea for the huntsman! Good find! Makes me want to see the endresult! You may need to file down the scabbard a little bit to make it more sword-like! Great job! |

There are some really great conversions in this thread. Little touches like that do so much to personalize a collection. You're a very good, neat painter as well. Please let this motivate you to update the thread more often! |

Well, time for this week's update. Thanks for all the kind comments - you are all very encouraging. Not loads of progress made due to real life getting in the way (just love Saturday mornings when the wife announces it's time to decorate the hall!). Anyway here is the King's Huntsman, now with beard: I've also just finished a set of Rohan Royal Guard, who've taken me ages as I wasn't enjoying painting them. However, now they are done I'm quite pleased with them. Sorry about the size of the pictures, photobucket was being unhelpful. Next up is a test for a Black Dragon (the new Easterling Upgrade). My Eastie army is painted as per the movie, but I wanted to signify the difference between the grunts and the new elites. I haven't yet stood him with the rest of the army to see how he compares and whether he stands out, but here he is: Finally, because I need several projects on at once here is mounted Glorfindel. He's been sitting around for ages with just the horse base coated so I decided to crack on with him too. I have to confess that I struggle with horses (I think I have 60 sat in my backlog!), and I'm particularly poor at white ones so I keep trying different techniques. This one was a white base coat with a watered down fortress grey wash. I'll hopefully get some more pictures up next weekend. |
