Sixteen Hobbiton-holes finished! :D

Image

A while ago I did some research into the 1999 LOTR movie location at Matamata; that’s when I started wondering if I could build some of these hobbit holes. It seemed to me a good idea to link them to my ‘Hobbiton Map’. The map shows you which smials are already finished, as well as their location (I may build a few more in the next months).

Let’s hope that, this time, we are going to see more of this beautiful site than just a few shots of Bilbo running “as fast as his furry feet could carry him down the lane, past the great Mill, across The Water, and then on for a mile of more” to meet Thorin and Company at the green Dragon!

Oh my.... !!!! :o
How absolutely stunning!!!
I always loved my own hobbit-hole above many others I have seen around (caugh-caugh...) but now I'm just gobsmacked and astonished with these ones of yours!
Absolutely fantastic work! So tiny winny winy little details give it so much character and the warmth you seek in a Hobbit-hole!
This is just... wow!

TOP-CLASS mate and so great to see new work of you again!!!

And still you haven't been contacted by WETA-workshop, right??

Holy cow! I wonder just as much as Bart does...why are you not getting a thousand job offers in the film industry?
Now the only thing left to do is package them and send them to me for my game table!! :D

Wow, I'm not sure where I was going, but let me try again with a sober mind...

I think these pieces are something fantastic! You have made some of the best looking hobbit holes I've ever seen and am really envious of your talent! I have got to try to emulate one of these for my collection. Very well done!! :)

Thank you guys for all the positive feedback!

Building these holes brings a lot of (building-)pleasure. I have worked on the project since last February, when I started to draw the first designs. Now it feels like I’m collecting this series of Hobbiton holes without having to search eBay or to wait for some workshop to produce them. Better: the most difficult part of the project is which one to choose next, as all these holes in Matamata are equally beauties.

I’m not sure yet, but numbers 13 and/or 24 (there’s two holes with the same number 24, or so it seems) may come with the next group of four.

Some of you might want to know about the grass I use. It’s Heki Decovlies (great stuff, also suited for upgrading  ).

Weta hasn’t called yet, Bart! Nor Peter. It baffles me too…

Here’s an update about my Hobbiton Project. Now that the ban upon publishing Hobbiton photographs has been lifted by the people of the Hobbiton Movie Set at Matamata I feel a little more comfortable showing my miniatures around… I have finished thirty holes – that’s fifteen more to go. Right now I’m working at the numbers 19 and 20; someone on youtube has described this double hole as “the stables”. I have also linked the pictures of the finished holes to my Hobbiton Map, to show their exact locations.

Image

It is my plan to complete all forty-five holes before the end of this year (…right!). I’m not sure about Bag End yet (it’s not the many windows but the Oak Tree that worries me… ).

In case you have missed this: Wellington LOTR tour guide Jack “The Noldor” M. has uploaded some fifty photographs of the Hobbiton Movie Set. You might want to take a look: http://www.nznoldor.com/.
