Well, I've been lurking here for a few weeks, as I've started learning the rules for LotR SBG. I decided to paint up the Ringwraiths I had acccumulated. I don't have any experience painting human-sized figures in this scale as all my other painting has been for Battletech. It was truly a lot of fun, and I'm quite happy with the results, although my photo-fu is weak, so please excuse that.

Ringwraith #1:

Ringwraith #2:

Ringwraith #3.  This was the same mini as #2, so I decided to mod him a little, and gave him an extra dagger:

Ringwraith #4, same mini as #1, nothing to really distinguish them:

Witch King:

And Twilight Witch King. I didn't realize until he was painted that the mini was missing part of his crown, but at that point I decided to leave him as-is instead of trying to kitbash those pieces:

Applying good highlights to a model that is mainly black like the Ringwraiths can be a bit tricky but these highlights look perfect, the first one in particular I love. I'm assuming you've painted quite a bit of Battletech then judging by the standard of the painting :)

Your photo-fu looks strong to me. Great painting as well. The black highlights on the standard wraiths are nice and subtle and the weathering is spot on. My only gripe is that the Twilight wraith isn't quite as bright as I like them, but that's just personal preference and the painting itself is still nicely done.

Really appreciate all the kind comments! I definitely feel motivated to do some LotR painting.

I used auto-white-balance on those pics, and I think that may be part of the issue (then again, I don't how bright you like them :) ). My goal was to emulate the Twilight wraiths on the GW website, and when I was done I was pretty excited because it seemed 95% there. I even had my wife compare the mini to the 'official' pics, and she said it was dead-on. That being said, I toyed with the idea of mixing up a white wash and washing the entire thing, including the terrain. I didn't have the courage to try it, do you think I should?

Try it on a test model, maybe a spare plastic troop or anything you have lying around with a similar texture. Sounds like it could work but I've never tried it either so I don't know for sure.

WOW!

I haven't seen many people that can actually paint black clothes that well, and you can do it amazingly! How did you do it exactly?
