This is some work I'm starting to enter in the March painting challenge.
As you can see I've started on Aragorn and Gandalf along with their bases.
I really like the color I got on Aragorn's cloak but not so much impressed with the work on Gandalf so far.
Any thoughts would be well appreciated. :)

By the Way this is the first painting I've ever done :D

Did you prime either of the models? That will allow you to get much better coverage. Gandalf especially needs a proper primer coat of either white or black.

No :( I forgot. I'm just new to this and not entirely sure of the methods behind painting figures

Yeah, priming is essential :) Most people (myself included) tend to undercoat with black; white and grey are also possibilities. The benefit of priming miniatures is - as SD mentioned - better coverage and it also gives you some basic shading and also contributes to depth and contrast.

Don't worry about 'mistakes' like this - everybody has to start somewhere and it's all part of the learning process!

Good luck with your first figs and most importantly, have fun :)

S'alright, I used to paint without a basecoat of primer when I first started. the most common colours are black or white and you can either brush or spray them on. I only use black spray paint to prime my figures, hate painting over white. All comes down to personal preference though.

Use black primer if you want a darker figure starting with dark colours you highlight. If you ant a brighter colour then use white. Once primed then start with a mid tone colour that you shade and highlight further.

There are some great painting guides in the Tomes Of Wisdom.

You don't have to follow them word for word but you should pick up some great hints and tips. I use them all the time!

Thanks for the help I'll remember to prime the other models for the challenge and try to fill in the gaps on these models before finishing up. :)

Are you supposed to prime scenery as well?

Thanks Constantine :)
It is the treasure chest from the Mines of Moria starter set. I filed away the bottom and glued it to Gimli's base.
I'll upload some pictures of it stuck to Gimli's base soon :)

As promised here are some pictures of Gimli and his treasure chest.
Sorry for the wait I've been so busy painting the fellowship for the painting challenge :-D
I'll try and upload some pictures of them soon :)

Had a bit of super glue spill on the front of the treasure chest which kind of ruined it  That is why it may look different to earlier uploaded picture of chest.

Here are some pictures of my first ever completed painted model, Gandalf :D
This will probably turn out to be the worst model I enter in the competition but its the first. :)
Worst but first (I can rhyme anytime :-D )

I'll upload some close-ups later :)

It's your first model, so it's ok.
But the skin looks really pale, I would maybe try to go for a bit darker skintone. Also it is Gandalf the Grey after all.. so I wouldn't paint his robes white..
But keep on trying! It's the only way to learn and improve. I'd be shocked by my own first models if I hadnt repainted them :D
