Well, I've started the hobby 10 years before and I've never checked the Internet for advice on painting, terrain modelling etc.
I've only done that since this summer, and quickly realized that my skills (if I could call them like that) were really below poor.
I'm starting this thread just to keep me inspired to paint some unpainted minis I have, and mostly restore those that I've not restored yet.

A bunch of Mordor Orcs that I've repainted recently:

Grisnakh:

Archers:

Swordsmen:

I'll post later some pics from my battleboard(I've finally remade it also) and some other terrain pieces I've made.

Feel free to post any comments and mostly critics!

Edit: Hm, what am I doing wrong with the images?

You could try adding some highlights/shading. I like the freehand on those shields ^^

I really like those shields. Do you base coat? It allows for much more depth of color on the models. The coats on Grish's face looks thick too, making the color more flat. They certainly are not bad thou :) and just enjoy the painting that's what they're for

Thank you all! I think the most important at doing a freehand, is first try it, even with a pen(cil) on a piece of paper and then just copy it. Since I'm not a good painter myself and I mostly want to keep the minis with a "clear" look, I never used this technique. But since I can do it, I'm sure that everyone can. :)

>Sanguinis. I know, I really should at least use a black wash at them, but since they were really really bad, I'm looking more to just restore them. Some time later, I'll surely do this (at least I'll try, since I don't usually do this).

>JamesR. If you mean to paint it first with a base colour, yes, I used black of course. But since I've painted awfully Grisnakh like 8 years ago, I didn't clear him first, but just painted him once more. I think the faces in some other orcs look really thick.

>Goldman. Thank you! It's easy and fun to give it a try!

And well, some other orcs I've repainted (some faces here look thick, and in general worse!)

You should consider stripping them, because you're losing a lot of details there!
Welcome back to the hobby! I picked up the hobby again last month ;D

Since they are Orcses I don't really bother doing it. I'll give them some highlights some time later and hopefully they'll look ok even from close distance.
Thanks! :)

Your losing a lot of the detail mate, If i was you id strip them and start over, try mixing your paint with water... Three thin coats is better than one thick one!

You might be right, ste, but stripping plastic models will cause a loss of details too normally (or how do you do it?)
If Finrod really wants to rstart, I'd recommend to grab some cheap orcsies on ebay and paint those.
Btw, Finrod seeing your "comic"-style is something quite refreshing :D I wouldnt paint mine like that, but it looks interesting after all :)

Never heard of it before here in Germany :|

I used nail varnish remover for a set of badly painted gobbos from ebay once.. if you leave them too long in it it will attack the plastic too, so it was not the best idea. But I was lucky to see that in time, so not much damage was done to the goblins..

Dettol is an anti septic dis infectant used for household purposes, am sure most countries would do an equivelant, just google it.

this works really well with both metal and plastic!!!

I'll give it a shot with Dettoll, as ste271276 said.
I preferred to give them such a look, since I imagine them wearing whatever they find, since they are not disciplined like the Uruks. Just wait to see how I've painted the Corsairs! :-D But generally I like painting what pleases me more, I'm tired of painting 30 simiral Uruks now... :x

Well, you're certainly right about the fact they're unorganized, but imo that doesn't mean you should blur out the details :D
They can be shabby detailed clothes, no? ;D

Ah, I thought you meant that about their colours/faces. I hope that with some highlights on the clothes they'll look OK from close.

Finished my Uruk scouts, time now for the siege team and fighting uruk hai, will post pics when they are all finished.

I finally finished repainting, basing and styling my Uruk-hai force, plus Saruman and a Ringwraith.

Any comments and mostly any criticism appreciated!
