Hi,

I would like to show you what I'm working on now. I have some projects, just starting out.

First of all, some goblins. I don't expect to build an army of those, just want them for some scenarios. I have been most careful with faces. I did want them to have a ' gobliness ' face, you know, mischievous.

I have like 18 already painted, but only these ones are finished:

Some uruk hai in the way:

Still getting used to the new camera forgive me If they are not perfect yet (well it's actually a phone), I think I need to do the pics closer.

I actually hate those goblins, don't know why but just hate them.
Yours however, are wonderful and it's making me re think my Balins Tomb project I have in the distant planning.
Wonderful detail and some nice shading and highlighting, above all very very good.

They are actually very good models, considering they are plastic and made ten years ago. The problem is they are an horde army, and usually the paintjob is not the best someone could be doing. Not the same to paint 10 elves than 40 goblins.

nice gobbos, plenty of detail you've captured in their little faces :P, what scenarios are you planning? standard fellowship ones or something of your own devising?

Just the standard ones in The Fellowship of the ring book.

I promise more closeups for today and I will be starting uruk-hai tomorrow.

Actually the photoshooting is awesome. The fade to green/grey around the photo is a filter? The goblins are nicely completely detailed. I even see the grey glazing in the shield. You can try rusting a bit the armour, but maybe this is what you don't want.

It's a scanned A4 sheet. I tried rusting the armour when I painted the first ones, but I didn't like the result. I wanted to get a black armour, with some metal reflections, and that's exactly what I finally get. I think for this particular miniatures it looks better. There are others that paint the rust to get an oxide orange effect, which I also tried, but I'm not particular a fan of that, it's hard to get it right.

The armour looks spot on for these and the red pops nicely.

Thanks for the comment. It took me some time to realize how to paint the reds properly but I think I got the point.

Here is the first galadhrim, as I promised. I painted this little fellow in 5 hours, non-stop , and I'm actually quite tired. Probably not going to paint in like two weeks :-D

I wanted to have a model to paint the others. It does have some mistakes and it needs the base to be painted, but I will fix that next time I paint. What's important, I have my design.

Let me know what do you think about it !

very nice elf.

Question: How did you do the cloak? Did you shade using a wash? Or did you shade and even highlight using a glazing technique with thinned down paint?

just curious hehe

The cloak looks excellent, it makes this a stand out piece. You have shown a lot of confidence to push the highlight towrd white, love it.

I started painting the cloack with thinned down shadow gray mixed with black. Then I continue painting highlights with thinned down shadow grey and I also strengthen the shadows with pure black thinned down. Last highlight is fenrisian grey. No shades :)

Yep, the cloack I'm not going to do anything else. But I need more contrast on the armour... And not convinced about the reds or the blue in the inner robes, I think I'm going to paint the brown.

I redone the inner robe, give it more contrast on the armour and final touches here and there.

Almost finished now, just need to work a little bit on the base. Unfortunately the model fell while I was painting. It seems like next time I will leave some space without leaves on the base so it stick better on the ground.

If you want more contrast for the armor, may I suggest blacklining?

Except, don't you use black haha.

For armor, I usually basecoat it with either silver/gold, then I go in between the pieces of armor and line them with a very dark color, depending on the other colors that the mini is being painted with. For your elf, I would suggest a brown to line the armor with.

After blacklining, and making everything look smooth, I would then shade the armor.

I have found this technique to really bring out and make the armor pop.

Give it a try!

You sir have done some mighty fine work on that elf. I thinks its one of the best models GW made for lotr and one of the hardest to do justice to. You ought to put up a step by step tutorial in the tomes of wisdom, such fine style should not go unduplicated.
