Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Im gonna start doing a WIP as I really enjoy reading everyone else's and would like to show off some of my more interesting ideas, hopefully it should also should prove some motivation to get things finished. I recently finished (after starting 2 years ago!) a War in the North Character WIP which you can see here: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=31480 I'm gonna keep that separate as it has a clear theme whereas I expect this will be more sporadic! Stay tuned... |

I love it! Great sculpt, very good painting and love the design! Very plausible look for a Tolkien Werewolf, I think. |

Very good sculpting and paint job! How long did it actually take to sculpt the werewolf? |

Thanks for the positive comments! It probably took me about 4 or 5 evenings after work, manly just lots of waiting time for the previous layer of GS to dry as I was using it quite thickly. I would definitely recommend having a go at something big like this as it was really good practice and much more forgiving than say sculpting an intricate face, especially thanks to the covering of fur. |

That Draugluin is excellent, really fantastic work. I love Werewolves. Is that a 40mm base he's on? |

About a week ago I discovered a thread on this site called The Unexpected Journey, its a painting challenge where each month everyone paints a character chosen at random. This months was Grima Wormtongue, so here is mine all painted up. It was good motivation to paint a character I may have never gotten around to and he turned out to be great fun to paint. I tried to get the different layers of the black cloak distinctive from each other. The overcoat it highlighted up by adding Cadian Flesh to black and the underclothes by mixing in Balor Brown to black. Have a look at this great little challenge here: viewtopic.php?f=96&t=32821 or on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1092085 ... 0766647687 |

Amazing! His face looks so alive. His cloak is also impressive. Can you tell me how you painted his face? |

@Johnny Thanks bud! I painted his face mostly the same as any human I do: Cadian Flesh tone washed with Reikland Flesh shade and hilighted with Kislev Flesh. But for grimace I added the most ridiculously small amount of green to the base and layer to give him a sickly look. I also added a final hilighted of Pallid Wych flesh to get him extra pale. Last thing I did was to give his eyes a little wash of extremedy diluted Wazdakka Red, I also ran this across his lips. The whole thing was a good fun experiment really! |

Ah, thank you! So it's the green what makes that sickly look so impressive. The lips are also an amazing detail. A little more blueish lips would have done the trick also I think! But anyway he looks so much like his real life counterpart that it's almost scary. Good job! |

So iv been on a wild adventure in sculpting, fresh off the heels of the werewolf I wanted to challenge myself and do something more anatomical. I bought my brother Azog on foot for Christmas and got jealous of the Pale Orc so I decided I wanted Bolg for myself! I am a big fan of the GW version, however I didnt want the warg riding version and so decided this would be my next sculpting challenge. I didnt want to try and recreate what GW had done and wanted to make something original so I picked the iconic scene from the movie where Bolg shoots Kili with his Morgul Bow. I must have stared at this picture and scene for hours and hours trying to get the pose and details right! I followed this guys instructions on how to build the wire armature for Bolg: http://spyglassasylum.blogspot.co.uk/20 ... y-way.html Im afraid that I didnt take any WIP pictures of the sculpting process, but it took me about 2 weeks adding a little bit at a time on most evenings to get to this stage. The muscles were the most important bit to get right and I looked at loads of photos and also used an Uruk Hai berserker and Orc archer to keep the pose realistic and to scale. The armour was just a case of rolling out and flattening the GS and then using the tool to push them into his chest. It was fiddly as anything but if one went wrong I just pulled it off and started again. I did them in 3 stages from the lowest going up, allowing each to harden before starting the next row. The face was tough but I did it by making a ball the right size on the end of a toothpick and squeezing it by hand into the right shape, again trial and error and I ended up mushing it up and starting again a few times before I was happy. Whilst still soft I carefully used my tool to push in the cheeks and form a slight jaw line. I pushed a deep hole to form his shouting mouth and some shallow dimples for his eye holes. Wisely or not I chose to do all this in one sitting so that I was able to adjust any part as I needed. After that I added all the details to the face; hair, nose forehead, more chin/jaw... For the bow I bent a paper clip to the exact size and shape I wanted then drilled a hole in the fist and pushed the wire through and glued it in place. I then sculpted the bow around this and added Bolgs fingers on top. Anyway thanks for reading, hope you found it interesting and stay tuned for some painted photos! |
