Hi guys, my first time creating my own WIP thread on the forums. I've posted a lot of these pics before on the GBHL and ASBG groups on Facebook but I thought I'd share some with you fabulous hobbits. Plus these forums could always use more content, I hope they don't fade away into shades ...

Anyway, here are some pics of some WIP for my Rivendell high elves. I just wrote up a whole blog post about it, so please excuse the lack of words. If you'd like to read more you can go https://wyrdstonesandtacklezones.com/2018/02/18/under-the-hobby-knife-rivendell-updates/

But here are some pics for you:

Mate these are probably the best high elf swordsmen conversions I've seen. Thanks a ton for sharing, please post more!

Thanks man! I appreciate the feedback. I'd like to do a tutorial on it sometime. I actually started one, then forgot about taking pictures halfway through it.

Great job on those conversions, rare to see them done well!

What’s the paint scheme for the armour?

Awesome work; the swordsmen conversions are inspired and very well executed. I'll be following this closely!

I'll have to double check my paint pots, but I believe it's

Basecoat: Screaming Bell
Wash: Reikland Fleshade
Drybrush: Golden Griffon
Light Drybrush Highlight: Necron Compound

Thanks! They might end up getting traded so I can start another project army because I'm crazy like that. But I'll probably do up some more myself as well.

I was feeling unsure about my color scheme. I decided to give the cloak some more layers of black and blue washes and the skirt some layers brown washes to make the colors richer.

I'm not sure the photos convey the differences, which are subtle. I'm still thinking I might try another scheme. I like the color scheme GW has for the Elrond foot and mounted version.

But maybe with off-white cloaks?

I see you are using GW's tool for holding figures while you paint - how is it working out? Is it too bulky?

I like it quite a bit. Before I was using baby food jars with blue tack to hold my models and paint :-D There have been a few occasions where I feel like I can't get the right angle with it, but overall I like it a lot.

Thanks, I keep having doubts about it though. For some reason the tri-color nature of it is throwing me off. I want to try one more color scheme (or two) before I make my final decision.

Here's another attempt at a color scheme.

Looks good! I think the white could use some more shading to give it some extra depth, but overall I think it's a good color scheme. 8)

White can be a daunting color to attack. For my white, I've found one way of painting it to be my go to and pretty easy tbh.

Basecoat it w/ an off white... Old GW Astronomican Grey or any of Vallejo's off whites, they have a ton of warm/cold off white colors.

After basecoating, use thin glazes for the shadows. Use a darker grey for this. Using glazes will give that realistic smooth transition.

For highlights, it pretty easy. Simply add white to the basecoat until you get to pure white in the areas where light hits the cloak the most. I like to keep the paint relatively thick for this.
