Hello everyone, I’m new to the One Ring but have been painting for a while. I thought it would be nice to share my painting progress as I begin my Hobbit and Lord of the Rings SBG journey. I’m going to be playing solo so I’m sure I’ll share some of my experiences there as I want to encourage others to try this game even if there isn’t a big scene near them. So far I’ve been painting my Escape From Goblin Town Box Set and am happy with what I’ve finished so far. GW did a good job with this set and everything has been fun to paint so far. I’ve gotten quite a few goblins done now as I prepare to play some of the scenarios in the game. They are quick to paint and with some glazing, you can get some pretty dingy looking gobbos! I tried to match their bases with colors I will be painting the wood terrain so they should look right at home on top of it in games. Fili was my first of the main characters I decided to tackle and I had a blast doing so. The freehand came out pretty well on him and while the colors are drab on his outfit, I still think he came out looking pretty good! I haven’t figured out how I want to base Thorin’s Company yet so I’m saving that for later on. Oin didn’t come out quite as well as I had trouble getting the eyes right and accidentally broke his staff during assembly. I think he will still look good on the tabletop and I’ll try to get a back-up copy in case I ever break the staff more or just want to improve upon this one. |

Just wanted to drop you a comment to say well done and keep up the good work. Some nice looking stuff here. I actually really like what you've done with the planking on the walkways. Is that just drybrushing? Keep her lit. Dallo |

Thanks Dallo! I appreciate your kind words. I did drybrush the wood which is pretty easy thanks to the nice textures GW sculpted. The key I've found is picking realistic colors for the wood and making sure there is variety on the planks. Here is a look at what I have been up to since then. Its mostly goblins and the captain (who I'm pretty proud of) but I also have done a couple more dwarves. Neither came out as well as Fili but I'm still happy with the results overall. I'm going to to keep working on dwarves and the remaining terrain so that I can play the scenarios in the relatively near future. I'm sure I'll keep chipping away at goblins since there are plenty of those left to do too. |

Looking great. I like the muted palette on the goblins. Keep up the good work. Dallo |

Well I didn't mean to start this thread and disappear but that is what happened, mostly due to a lack of free time. I'm bringing it back as I work on painting up everything needed to play the An Unexpected Journey scenarios (and beyond!). I recently hit a big painting milestone and finished my Escape From Goblin Town box set! I will never again underestimate the time it takes to paint one of GW's Starter Boxes again In all seriousness, it was a blast to paint and I'm really proud of the pictures below! If you'd like to see the dwarves from Goblin Town that I painted in 2018, a few of which I showed in progress in this thread, please visit my site for more info and pictures! https://wp.me/p9OpCq-1C |

Thank you Mapper and I'm glad to hear you enjoy the battle reports! I've been following your thread to see what kind of cool terrain you're making and I'm looking forward to formally following it now |

While I've been cranking out the battle reports, I have been busy painting behind the scenes. I recently finished up painting the Hobbit trolls and while I plan to take higher quality pictures (and fix the lighting on them) for now anyway, they're done and I'm happy to show them off If you'd like to see the campfire terrain and hear a bit more about my experience painting them, feel free to visit my site below! https://wp.me/p9OpCq-2s |

Nicely done on the trolls, if a little too clean if you know what I mean. Mine are still in the plastic mountain of unpainted, the larger models like these are daunting to me to even start. |

Nicely painted. I think the sculpt on these guys is good bc they do not look too smart. Lol |

Mapper - Definitely! Most people go for a dirty look but I tried to be more generic fantasy than what Peter Jackson did. I just love clean painting and can't seem to bring myself to change that Stew - Haha, that is a great point! They look like dopes which is true to the books and the movies |

Wow, those trolls look so good. The flesh is an amazing blending job, you don't see the brushstrokes at all. The goblins look great too, I especially like the colouring on the throne. I don't usually paint eyes in my minis, but these big guys might need to be attempted. |

You're too kind GKA! One thing that might surprise you is that the eyes on those fairly large trolls are actually pretty small and not much bigger than the eyes on an infantry model. It is definitely worth getting the eyes on the trolls as their expressions really rely on the eyes. I have some more painting progress to share with you all. Been busy with some members of the Shire. And for something completely different, I also worked on a Hunter Orc on Fell Warg. That makes three of these guys done. I need nine more to use them in the Unexpected Journey scenarios so plenty more painting ahead of me. As usual, if you'd like to see more pictures of the minis or read a bit more about my thoughts painting them, you can visit my site below! https://wp.me/p9OpCq-2z |

It has been a little while since my last update but I've managed to make progress on a number of hobby goals. I made my first terrain (pictured below) with cds and some spare basing supplies. This was a lot of fun and easy to do. I also tried to push my painting skills on some recently re-released Fellowship models. It has not gone according to plan or been as successful as I hoped. There's more thoughts about building Goblin Town Terrain but if you want to read more about that, you'll have to visit my site using the link below https://wp.me/p9OpCq-3c |

Much appreciated as always, Stew! After a bit of a hiatus for holiday weekend in the US, I managed to make my first trees and paint up another Hunter Orc on Fell Warg. If you have any tips for improving the trees further, that would be much appreciated though I will admit to not having the trees based yet which I look forward to doing soon. As always, more info and pictures are available at my site if interested! https://wp.me/p9OpCq-3k |

Ahhh, good ol' Woodland Scenics trees. Nice to see them on the field. Some people like to airbrush the flocking to give highlights where the sun hits them. More great minis! |
