Hi guys, sorry if this topic has already been made, but I'm planning on starting a castle project - I don't want to make something too big, just a classic fortress perhaps 30x30 inches. Issue is I'm not quite sure what materials are best used when making a fortress. I have looked in the Tomes of Wisdom but can't really decide between MDF or foam board, and hardly know the difference. If there are any guys on this forum from the UK, could you suggest where to buy this sort of material? Wickes or someplace?

Me and my brother made siege pieces to run the length of a 6ft board (enough for helms deep/minas tirith) out of 6inch sections using mount board from picture framers… it's incredibly strong and making it in 6 inch sections means you can do what you want with it in terms of look if you make a couple of corner pieces…

A sheet of MDF will provide the stability for the base. Then look for some insulation foam from B&Q / Wickes etc, you should get a big sheet for a fiver.
Now you can cut up the foam to whatever you want. Thats very basic but will give you a start.
