This not so much a how to question as a what to do question. I am fishing for ideas . I want to start on the road down to Gollum's lake. I stacked some of my existing terrain to sort of conceptualize.I am going to start at 4 inches so that it will line up with with the other sections I have. From 4 inches the road will wind down to 0 level or table level.

At first I thought I could wind the road down to a bout 2 inches and add a dish for a small pond using the water effects. Then the road would wind down to the back door and out.

When I started stacking the terrain, I got the idea to have some water cascade down from a series of small pools. Clearly no room for the little boat. Should I put the lake at the table level? I have to keep the size down because I intend to play on it. I was going to keep the piece at about a square foot. I am already going to do a Last of the Mohicans water fall on a separate piece. Any idea on what to do on this piece or any other thing you think I should add would be most helpful.

I will cut the road from plywood and build around it. If you click on the thumb nail some of the other pieces are in the album.

I would put a lake at table level as the idea of the cascade of water sounds very neat. In order to make it playable, and movable, you might want to make the lake separately and just put the shoreline at the bottom of this piece. That way the lake could fit with both pieces and maybe even be used on its own.

Are you making the one they hide under. I'll be looking forwards to seeing what comes out of this.

Yes.I have to make one for the french and Indian War too. I traded Dennis my wide river sections for a Dwarf army when He had to move to Kentucky. I need to make new wide river sections and the falls for the canoe chase. I am learning to use the water effects from Woodland Scenic. So That is part of the reason I am playing with all of the cascading water for Goblin Town.

It is always a good thing to make terrain usable for more than one thing.
I am trying to work out your fallen tree idea as well. There is room for a King Kong bridge too.

I do not have any art class training at all. Any one have any suggestions on how to warm this cold gray up. Other wise it is an example of how I am trying to make the road pieces useful for more than one scenario.
