I was wondering if anyone had ideas/pictures for some Dwarf/Goblin/Moria terrain? I only have a few ideas (listed below) and would like some more. (I have the Mines of Moria box set) Scaffolding Rock piles Weapons/Armour piles Dead Goblins/Dwarves/Skeletons (because most Skeletons are dead ) small underground pool/lake (similar to gollum's lake) a ruined dwarven hearth cobwebbed rock piles, for spider lairs pieces of crumbling (or otherwise) dwarven walls burnt-out campfires fallen/standing statues small rock face with an ore seam or something pits/chasms Thanks, Chris |

I thought we had the connversion about Undad being more alive then dead. There's not much more if you also include the pillars with the set. |

If your going to bother with an underground theme, you have to go all out in my opinion. Chokepoints, tunnels and pits oh my! I'd steer clear of an underground plain. it would just be a plain and not worth the bother. If you must have a large and unadorned underground map, then at least litter it with pillars like in the first lotr movie when the balrog scares the gobbos away. Even then though, I'd have cracks and whatnot where a failed jump means you are never seen again... There was some pretty cool pics in the WD that had the stats for the gundabad blackshields I believe. Had the whole "we use mirrors to light the area up" effect/idea going but thats just a hollywood myth so im not a fan. I don't know, I think the map should be just as deadly as the opposing team... But then again it has to be big enough to allow things like dragons and drakes and balrogs to navigate it properly. |

Updated the list above GothmogtheWerewolf wrote: I thought we had the connversion about Undead being more alive then dead. Indeed we did Skeletons aren't always undead though Battalia wrote: If your going to bother with an underground theme, you have to go all out in my opinion. Chokepoints, tunnels and pits oh my! Mirrors don't really appeal to me either (at the moment) Thanks for the replies |

this higlhy depends if you are doing an underground map as if you are the there should be lots of doors in dwarf fashion and as already said pits and chasms is a must, also small guardrooms with wells isn't a bad idea |

I hope you can get some ideas from the photos. Under ground does not have to be boring |

Moria and similar underground domains lend themselves to wonderful 3D battles, with perhaps half the table being the ground above the cavern and the other half being the subterranean environment. The latter could have ramps and stairs to the outside plus perhaps overhangs and similar levels to increase the places where models can do battle. Scenarios might include defending a gate to hold off the enemy main body but being wary of infiltrators coming down ventilation shafts or up through sewers. For terrain within the environments, then the classic ideas are of Moria when it was dark, delapidated and full of dusty relics of battle. Why not look at the spendour of Thranduil's halls in northern Mirkwood with its magic gates and light-filled rooms. Or the glittering caves of Aglarond, full of stores and stalagmites, defended by Rohan militia against the Uruk Hai (or perhaps Gimli's people against some unknown foe). The dungeons of Barad-Dur or Dul-Guldur are other environs with Orcs instead of Goblins and perhaps Elves venturing underground to do battle amidst barracks and foundries. Finally there are the pits of Isengard, full of wargs and workshops. |

Thanks for all your help. I like the idea of above/below ground at the same time, I plan on making an order to Thomarillion (see below). I like the idea of having part inside and part outside (in fact there was a 2ft by 2ft "board" like that at my local GW) although I may stick to just inside I've started work on some Dwarf scaffolding, although most progress has had to stop, as I have 2 exams this Thursday, which I was only told about last Friday (thanks School , so I've done nearly no revision for them. This thread is incredibly inspirational and has been a great help as I plan my ideas out At some point I hope to put in an order with Thomarillion for: Dwarven throne – €5.25, Rege noctem (representing a Dwarven throne stolen by Goblins) - €4.99, 2 Pedestals for statues (round) (for statues) – €3.25, A well – €2.70, Small pond (got to get water from somewhere after all) – €1.50, with some other pieces as well, although I'm unsure on which yet, possibly the smithy and piles of gold. |

sounds a great idea to do an underground theme, i would say that warriors painted grey would make good statues for those pedestals. for a few little things maybe get hold of some torches to put in places, the usual weapons to put everywhere, shields, swords, axes. maybe you could get some mining equipment, such as having pickaxes. |

I got a handful of the LotR Heroclix pieces for statues, because they're larger than the GW minis. You might look for some dwarves. All I'm finding offhand are Gimli & the hobbits but the Heroclix models are really easy to convert, so at the least they'll make a great platform to start custom statues from. |
