So I've recently assembled some scenery out of balsa. I'm at the stage of adding some final touches before painting, and I've got to create some brickwork patterns over balsa wood.

What would be the best way to create some brickwork over balsa? There's of course plasticard, but that means ordering online and it's costly. Secondly, I've got some filler which could be painted over the balsa then carved in.

Both of these I don't see working well though. Are there any other ways (other than shaping the balsa)?

If you can find cheap(as in quality) foamcore board, it makes great brick work.

The cheap board you can wet the water and peel off the paper. Leaving just the foam that is easy to score with a pen. Then just draw your brick work pattern and paint.

Here is a test piece I did for a ruin I'm working on:

Hope this helps.
