Hey guys, I am making a Total War style campaign, and for the maps, I want to know how to construct some basic villages, towns, and cities.

-Orcish tents and whatever shelters they might use
-Rohirrim style houses and farms
-Fiefdom towns
-Gondorian houses and shops
-Dwarf villages
-Elvish villages

The materials especially would be nice. Thanks, and cheers!

Not too sure about Orcish style tents but there is something about how to make a tent in the old Shadow in the East book that you can probably find online if you look around for the bit.
Maybe you can make the colour different or something?

I'll look for that book, I'm sure I'll stumble across the PDF. I really wish I had gotten into the game early enough to snatch all those scenario books and whatnot.

This is a big list. I am going to assume you are a total beginner and send you to a Utube craft site. There will be a lot of information about materials and basic technique. DM Scotty builds for D&D but there are tons of ideas about building terrain.

One of my favorite blogs for terrain for beginners is terrain for hippos. He has *tons* of projects, many of them are similar to what you are trying to accomplish. Very easy, cheap builds.

Battle Games in Middle Earth (now OOP and available through e-bay) has a terrain building section in each issue. There's an index on the boards.

I recently bought terrain from Warbases out of the UK. Some great, reasonably priced goodies, but a bit small to scale. I'm still going to have a great time with them, though.

Many people use a door mat and cut it into squares for fields. It works and looks pretty good, especially with fences and a scarecrow. The problem with dwarf villages is that they tend to be underground, but don't let that stop you!

Thank you very much! I am an extreme beginner with terrain. I've scratch built some natural pieces that look alright, but in terms of buildings, I am very well lost.

Never thought of using door mats for that, that's really ingenious. With the underground holds, I'm mostly going to have fortifications covering some underground entrance. However, I am thinking of doing a few above-ground for some agriculture, and having villages like Bree where Dwarves and Humans live together and things like that.

The door mats make good fields and are still easy to move figures a cross'

use something like a floral mat to mark forest boundaries.

Thank you so much! The tutorials in there are amazing! Will likely use it for Orc or Rohirrim encampments.
