Post subject:  IMPORTANT - One Ring Awards - Please Read

I need to let all the members know that the competition committee have messed up a bit with the rules. We have been talking about rules amendments for members who finish in first place in the awards. Unfortunately, the rules were not modified in time for these awards.

Basically, it was decided that if you win in the Open category, then you can't enter in that category next season. You can enter any other category of course. This was designed to give other members a chance if somebody was dominating a particular category. It also encourages the winning member to diversify and try out different things.

It was also decided that winners of a Beginners category will have to enter the Open equivalent in future, since they have proved themselves skilled enough to win in the Beginners. Basically, this is to give all beginners a chance and get intermediate members to try and excel at a category. They also get a chance to win a physical prize too instead of coins.

It is a bit late to say no entry for Open category winners this time, but the following members will be expected to step up to the Open category for this competition.

Spring 2006 Winners
Best Painted Miniature - Beginners
1st Place - Elf Banner Bearer by Suladan
Best Sculpture/Conversion - Beginners
1st Place - king of man on horse, with bad paint job!! by fatty-bolger
Best Terrain Piece - Beginners
1st Place - Wainrider Camp by Curunír
Best Diorama - Beginners
1st Place - A well earned rest! by Curunír
Best Scenario/House Rules - Beginners
1st Place - Axemen of lossanarch by fatty-bolger

Winter 2005 Winners
Best Painted Miniature - Beginners
1st Place - Boromir by suladanthegreat
Best Sculpture/Conversion - Beginners
1st Place - Mordor Troll Conversion by Nolofinwe
Best Terrain Piece - Beginners
1st Place - Gondorian house by valpas
Best Diorama - Beginners
1st Place - Gondor vs. Mordor by BarukKhazad
Best Scenario/House Rules - Beginners
1st Place - Goblin Assassin by Serin Brasslaughter

If you have entered in the beginners category already, then the committee reserve the right to move you up into the open category. This will give all the other beginners a better chance and allow you to join the elite for that category.

Members who haven't won a category can still enter in either the open or beginners as deemed appropriate by the member. As is always the case the committee/admin reserve the right to reallocate entries if appropriate.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused and we will make sure the rules are totally in place for next time.

Azog ( on behalf of the Competition Committee)

Azog, as winner of the last open miniature painting category i'm willing to not participate in this category for the Summer Awards, regardless of the late decision, and defer entry until the Autumn...

I think it's a good decision you have taken in the interest of the Awards competition...

regards

That all seems fair and reasonable to me. It would be really disheartening if someone talented hogged the Single Mini or any other category, no matter how many other tried - I suppose this way they can only win every other time, at most?

Yep, thanks Azog for moving quickly to post this amendment, and thanks everyone for accepting it.

Its odd actually, our intention was always to prohibit the winners of one competition from entering the next one - it gives other people a chance and helps to prevent the heavyweights from dominating a category over and over again. But somehow our intention wasn't written down in the rules and we never spotted our omission.

Good luck everyone and enjoy the Summer Awards

That's right, bit of a blame for us really.
Nevertheless, make sure you all read the rules, even if you've already read them. It's the foundation of our competition and as you see, some things still pass our great eyes! An invitation to members: if you don't feel allright with something or you believe someone is cheating or doing things against the rules, just give us a PM!

It certainly was their intention, this is no sudden addition. Dagorlad actually informed me of this just after the end of the first Awards season, but I guess somehow it didn't make it into the writing...

I don't see this as a problem. Like menace, I'm happy to take a break from the competition so I will not be entering the Open catagory for the Scenarios/House Rules -more time for me to do some playtesting ;)

And again, I'm glad you cleared up the situation about whom is expected to move up to the Open Catagory.

Hejdå

I believe you can place your entries from 1st Jully until the end of the month Meridian, so plenty of time to work something out. ;)

MacGothmog is right, the entries close on Aug 1st, the time depends on where you are I believe, but if you get it in before July 31st, there should be no problem.

If you want more information, check out the Competition Rules.

Good Luck, and good luck to everyone else as well.

Cheers

Yes, that's right. We always have one month off, one month to enter and one month to vote. There might be a few off-days for the committee (checking everything out) but generally that's the way it works.
