To celebrate the imminent release of the movies and the new miniatures from Games Workshop, the One Ring is declaring November to be 'Hobbit Month"

Yeah,. ok, I just made that up.

But to help us get into the spirit of the month, there will be a number of new articles released by our old friend BilboOfTheWhiteTower, as well as a new Sculpting & Conversion Challenge and the monthly painting challenge will be hobbit themed. I fully expect the Gold Coin system to be working, so some of the younger hobbits might be scuttling around Bag End, tapping the walls, looking for secret panels and hunting for "jools."

So start thinking about how you can contribute to the Hobbit Month - perhaps a new article, paint up that old blister of shirrifs that has been sitting in the cupboard for years, or maybe draft a new scenario for the Battle of Bywater.

NOTE BY DMS : The current Terrain challenge could also be focused on the Hobbit for anyone who has not already got a project underway. The closing date for the terrain challenge is not until November 30th. See http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=23911

What are the plans for other articles that are pending release?

I have one there and I was planning on writing a few more.

By that logic you'd be banned from painting competitions.

Touche.

Our brand new HOBBIT Sculpting & Conversion Challenge is starting!!
Take a look and pick up your greenstuffs and tools!

Good luck to all! :)

small note... I have also renamed the general 'painting challenge' category into 'hobby challenge' since we now have terrain-building and converting aswell...

Well, the new theme to celebrate Halloween didn't last long (we'll do it for a couple of weeks next year), but we're now into "Hobbit Month"

So comb the hairs on your feet and tuck in to your second breakfast! There will be a few conversion articles coming soon from our dear friend BilboOfTheWhiteTower, the Conversion Challenge is off and running and this month's Painting Challenge has a Hobbity theme.

Wish me luck, but I hope to have the Gold Coins system working by the end of the month, so we can start to reward each other for being very Hobbit-like (adventurous Tooks or sensible Bagginses).

Loving the themed banner, Alan. And did someone say Gold Coins? :D

Coincidentally, Ript Apparel has a Hobbit-themed t-shirt for sale for just the next six and a half hours.

Anyone know how far along the story the first movie might take us?

The troll shaws?
The goblin abductions ?
Or the entry into Mirkwood... a Hobbit looking out amongst a tree canopy of Black butterfly's.. would make cool diorama. Perhaps using a real miniature tree?
Will we see the white Council at Rivendel?
I'm hoping we see nicer minis for the eleven twins of Elrond .. with smaller blades.

According to imdb the second movie (The Desolation of Smaug) starts with seeking help from a powerful stranger, so I guess they'll start somewhere just before they meet Beorn. (although Beorn is in the cast of the first one).

So I guess we won't be seeing Tauriel yet in the first one, she's not in the cast either :(
(I'm really looking forward to see the result of a totally new female fighting character Tolkien never spoke off...)

A while ago imdb still said the first movie would take us to just after Mirkwood, but I suppose that was when it was still meant to be two movies instead of three...
