What would you suggest as the best wraith in a 9 company formation of Goblins against a Mordor army?

He meant a formation of 15 pt goblins, not a 15 pt (1 company) formation of goblins.

Let me correct myself, instead of which you like better, which you think would be more useful. Against an army with a lot of terror causing units (Mordor, Elves) the Dark Marshal can be really useful, even getting you extra dice against Mordor. Khamul doesn't need such thought with using him, stick him in your biggest formation, the less defense the better once you're close enough to your enemy. So Khamul is best all round, while DM needs some thought on where to use him.

Khamul can be used anywhere while Dark Marshal of the type ' Is worthy if it is used right...' 8) So as a begginer you may want to take Khamul 8)

The other reason you would want DM is that Morgul Knights and Black Numenoreans become common formations with him.

I was just saying that because it is another of his advantages.

Rolling 3 dice and discarding the highest for a courage test isn't really that useful. First you increase their chance of getting a high roll, then you lower it by the same amount. So all you're doing is doing what you would normally do, but it just SEEMS that it's been upgraded. If it was roll 3 dice and discard the 2 lowest, that would be great, but then that would be the same as just saying roll one dice.

That is not true.

The odds of rolling a "2" on regular 2D6 are 2.7777%. The odds of rolling a "2" on 3D6 drop the highest are about 7.5%. Rolling a 12 goes from 2.77% to only around .5%. 3D6 drop the lowest results in a "5" being the most common result.

What's the equation you used for that?

Honestly, I went out and Googled it because I didn't want to take the time to figure out the equation myself.

For proof that they are different though, consider that, with 3D6 drop the highest, in order to roll a "12" you have to roll 3 "6"'s on 3 dice. That is one chance in 216, or about .5%. to roll a "12" on just 2D6 it is 1 chance in 26 or about 2.7%.

True, I'm studying for my Calc 3 midterm and really didn't want to figure out exactly what it was. After thinking it over, you are right.
