Gandalf leads the Gondorians forward , "this way" !
Image

A mordor troll is keen to take on the might of Gondor.

Image

Image

The Troll is hoping to smash some men of Gondor and keep them in place , as Shelob lurks in one of the woods ..........
Image

It's my son's first game , he hasn't got the hang of using magic yet so I'm helping him with suggestions on what to cast , he has Khamul the Easterling casting Wings of Terror on his Orc unit with two handed weapons.
Gothmog is acting as bodyguard for the Ringwraith.

Meanwhile on the other flank the small unit of Wargs are keen to get to grips with some Gondor archers.
But Gandalf has swept around with his KNights and taken care of the Wargs , best to keep Gandalf far away from Gothmog and his epic strike...

And a little Cave troll is wouned by some Knights.

So the game is set up , waiting for completion when we get a chance , too much to do , school , swimming , cricket , homework etc etc.

More later , when will Shelob pounce

Great looking armies!

Do you mind posting the lists? Is this a 1000pt game?

Yes , it's only 1000 points , it's my son's first game , so the points may be out a bit, but roughly we have the following.

Mordor

Khamul the Easterling ( I talked him out of takign the witch king , this guy is way better for the cost)
Gothmog
Shelob ( my son insisted)
4 co of orcs with 2 handed weapons , banner and captain
2 co of orc archers
2 co of orc archers
Mordor Troll
Cave Troll
3 co of wargs

Gondor

Gandalf
Aragorn
2 co of Minis Tirith archers
4 co of Minis Tirith Warriors Banner
4 Co of Minis Tirith Knights Captain and banner
4 Co of Minis Tirith Knights Captain and banner
Trebuchet

One of my Knight units has used up all it's might and the cav troll is wounded in front of them , I've got my units neart he woods so when he springs his Shelob trap I'm in big trouble. :o
He has written on a secret piece of paper where shelob is hiding but hasn't revealed her yet. :x
Shelob will mince one of my units and then I reckon he will be able to "Wings of Terror" the orcs into action.
It may be up to Aragorn to save the day 8)

Great stuff Keithandor :yay:

Nothing better than being able to play a fun game with your young fella. I'm in the process of teaching my nephew but he's still a bit young (totally addicted though).

Looking forward to seeing where Shelob makes her mark!

Cheers,
Steve.

So we continue

The Orcs with 2 handed weapons lead by Gothmog and Khamul the Easterling

Image

Gandalf leads the cavalry forward to dispatch the orc archers on the hill.
Surely he can take them down.

Meanwhile.... Khamul the Easterling casts "Wings of Terror" on the Orcs

Image

Image

An at the double success with the help from Gothmog spending a might point to pass the test , and the Orcs are on the flank.

Image

Gandalf survives 4 rolls on the duel table , Gothmog set up the duel and then called an "Epic Strike". Gandalf was very lucky and only took one hit.
Gothmog was running out of might but it wasn't needed as the Orcs wiped out the Knights and next turn they surged forward with "wings of terror" again.

This final picture sums up the fate of Gondor as Shelob pounced form the trees and with the help of the wounded troll they wiped out Aragorns warriors.

A good fun game and an easy win for Mordor :yay:

Summary
The Wings of Terror spell is awesome , a 24" move for a large unit of orcs means they can swing onto the flank of any unit.
Shelob anda Troll can work well together.
Trebuchets are not worth it , especially with the narrow field of fire.

A good fun game :D

it is always a treat to see two painted and based armies battling over completed terrain, especially armies and terrain at this quality. thanks for sharing Keithandor, its rare indeed to have postings of battle reports.

very nice and thanks for the pics

I could totally relate, my son who is 9 for his first army wanted

Sauron
Shelob
Mordor Troll

so I got him that stuff but showed him how/why you had to have a balanced army, so anyway he likes the large armies too, but any time he can get the big things he wants them.

He is waiting for me to get the Balrog painted next.

thanks again for the fun report. :yay:

The bases on those Gondor models are absolutely superb, especially how the patches of rock sync up between the bases and the movement trays.
