How do you guys advice the use of pure Easterlings? Defensive? Offensive? Use archers for support fire or leave openings for direct fire? How do you guys use your Kataphrakts? |

I like ot use my Easterlings with pikes as the anvil. Take a couple/few moderately sized formations of them and march them forward. I like to bait some chargers or just keep pressing forward until they have no choice but to engage. Cav can follow behind and act as flankers/counterchargers. With the pikemen's high fight, high defense, and ability to negate charging bonuses, they are great when receiving charges, but they can be multi-role if an opportunity to charge presents itself. I think they're the best infantry in the game. |

Offensive always. Easterling archers are fine, but they aren't going to win ranged battles against anyone who brought their own shooting. I use them to try and weaken key enemy units before charging. With the Betrayer on board they become a potent threat, but then so does everyone. The other thing to remember is that these guys can fight too! F4 D5 are not stats to be ashamed of, and there will be times when a supporting charge is the correct use for these guys. Warriors and pike are both solid combat units. Pike and defence 7 along with a dragon knight to duel enemy heroes low in Fight makes for a potent combo. Add a Nazgul and you have a very nasty unit. As for Kataphrakts I really can't help. I lose mine in every game without fail, often without inflicting so much as a single hit on the enemy! |

ok I recently took to the field with my Easterling army and heres my thoughts. Kataphrakts are awesome!THEY HAVE A GOOD FIGHT DEFENCE AND STRENGTH, but they need something like khamul to keep them alive. I used the pikes as a anvil to recieve the charge. a igh defence means even dwarves struggled to kill. and I had the Betrayer in there to help those rolls. when you have a formation of 6 companies with a frontage of 3 thats 3 times 8+1 for support + rerolls! that quickly added up! oh and if u feel nasty take Amdur! but the real fun was the charge of kataphrakts. |

At 1000 points roughly how many regiments would you guys field? Say half the force in the center Would 1/4 pikes, 1/4th archers and rest regulars be good enough? I only have on Dragon Knight but quite a few Captains. I presume this won't be crippling? Khamul... is he best as infantryleader? Or used to give some punch/survivability to Kataphrakts? |

I think it's fair to say that Morgul Knights are better in almost all situations than Kataphracts. I played a guy just getting started with Fallen Realms on Thurs. He just ran all his Easterlings as 'Counts as' Pike. It was not in the least bit confusing and I think the Pike/Shields are the pick of the Bunch. Re: which Nazgul... both Betrayer and Khamul are very good but to be honest comparing top-tier Nazgul is a little like thinking hard on what gun to bring to a knife fight. |
