Other than Mordor, which army is the next best would you say?

Misty Mountains (Blackshields, Durburz, Druzhag, Stone Giant, Dragon, Spiders), Fallen Realms (Arbalesters, Ringwraiths, especially Khamul, Morgul Knights, Mumakil) or Isengard (crossbows, Saruman)

The words in brackets refer to some of the thing that make the list good. Angmar, unlike the other armiies is more difficult to use.

However, I do play Angmar.

It depends on your style of play - Isengard is pretty tough, they have lots of tough troops and a strong theme and uniform as well as decent options (some cheap troops, some cavalry, some monesters, crossbows, pikes etc). Misty Mountains is pretty great because most of it strikes before Infantry, which is what you'll find most (except for maybe Rohan) and has lots of mosnters. Fallen Realms has a lot of options, access to the Mumak (without being an ally) and some of the options are pretty dang cool. Angmar are pretty difficult to use, but can be one of the most powerful - except against Elves, ghosts are brilliant (especially against Dwarfs and when combined with spells that reduce courage, the Watcher in the Shadows Fate, Grima and so on) and the other stuff is cool too (either cheap, monster, special effects or berserk).

There is not 'best' in Lotr I beleive... The victory or lsoe is 33% of strategy 33% of your army 33% of the dice... 8)
There are in generic Mordor(Orcs and Wraiths), Isengard(Uruk-hai), Misty mountains( Goblins and monsters),Fallen realms( Evil men), Angmar(Spirits, Men and Orc and also the most hard to play althought it's my favourite 8) )

Unfortunately, you are a little wrong, Mordor is the most powerful list (unless made and used badly, but that's up to the player)

It's person has his own opinion my friend... I don't want to offend anyone but each person can express his thoughts... Now what is right and what is not is another theme but that's up to the player himself to be chosen... 8)

No other army (good or evil) can create such an overpowered and undercosted army as Mordor can; lots of cheap and powerful wraiths eg Khamul, the Betrayer, the Knight of Umbar, the Dwimmerlaik, put it with Gothmog and masses of Morannon Orcs, and you'll find the list is more powerful than any other.

I still believe or are the same... But let's not continue this discussion cause it will end in an argue... 8)

Gothmogthewerewolf, I agree. Though only a subset of the Angmar list makes it difficult to use. It's the same thing as your player choosing to make a bad Mordor list really.

Hilbert, I really don't agree about this game being 33% dice. Your in-game choices matter a lot more than that. I wouldn't even bother playing a game that is that random. :)

I think that, because you frequently roll so many dice in WotR, that the random factor starts to balance out and you (usually) get much closer to "average" than in a lot of games, making the strategy needed to set up favorable attacks much more important.

Quite right. I see very few 'make or break' rolls in this game but I do try and keep multiple of formations and heroes in my army so that I don't usually need to rely too much on one roll.

I'd compare WOTR to Impetvs, which while very tactical and balanced, is also incredibly random sometimes. I generally find that WOTR throws up far fewer surprises in a turn than Impetus does.

Although ypu can make both good and bad list in any army, no army other than m,ordor can pull off the wraiths, morannons, Gothmog trick.

About 33% dice, I would agree that it doesn't play such a big roll, were in not for the fact that the Dwimmerlaik would not cast a single spell alll game.

We had a poll on the best War of the Rings armies. Mordor easily won, but the battle for second was very close. If I recall correctly, Dwarves came second, Gondor third, and Moria fourth. Here's the thread, if you're interested: viewtopic.php?f=88&t=19278

in your personal opinion

The way I went about it is I collected lots of common Orcs. That way I can play Mordor, Isengard or Angmar. Plus everyone loves to face an army full of squishy Orcs.

My next best would be Moria since they have more of the fun units to play. Dragons, Goblins, Spiders and Druzhag are very fun to play. Mumaks are fun too.

What have Mumakil got to do with Moria?

I just threw that in there (that is Fallen Realms). Besides... what do you think Balrog's eat?
