Painting Challenge: Lurtz!

Image

Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the August Painting Challenge!

Rules

1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge, this months' being Lurtz. It is not required that you paint this mini, however it is preferred. Here is a list of preferred miniatures in order of most preferred to least preferred:

1 - Lurtz (any version)
2 - Ugluk or Vrasku or Mauhúr
3 - Uruk-hai Command (banner or captain or shamen)

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme).

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of August 31st, 2011. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. In previous painting challenges, the winner and runner-up recieved prizes in the form of gold coins, however with the websites current situation, gold coins are not available to give as prizes, so no prize is available at the moment.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all!

I went for Saruman, hoping (and expecting) I will have some spare time again to paint!
I choose him because it's a harder mini to paint (because of the white...) and I would like to see the results of all who takes part, and I hope it will be as much as there are now for the Aragorn-month.

btw, Jake, shouldn't it be July 19th? :P
Thanks again for all this!! :)

I also really hope there are as many participants as this time. We're only halfway through the month and we're up to 130 posts in that thread! Thanks to all who are participating!

And yes Bart, it should, thanks. I was getting ahead of myself. Silly me!

I also went for Saruman. I need to get him painted since my Isengard army needs a really good hero at their front. Lurtz would have been my second choice so either one works for me. :-D

I got an unpainted Lurtz that I need to lead my Isengard Scouts. So please let it be him!

I voted for Durburz...primarily because I have an unpainted one waiting for some brush-lovin'.

I voted for Durburz, since I own 2 and one of them hasn't been touched since first buying the bgime magazine years ago.;) I have a spare lurtz too though, so that's ok too.

If Saruman wins, would Radagast be a suitable alternative?

I suppose as a last resort it could be acceptable, but obviously only if you can't do Saruman (Gandalf would be the second choice).

Does the miniature you enter have to be new, never painted? Because I have an old Lurtz I've always wanted to repaint, he looks terrible. If I re-undercoat him, would he be suitable for entry, or would he be no good? Assuming Lurtz wins, of course (the only other thing I have on the list is Durburz, well painted).

It doesn't have to be new. Reundercoating it will be fine :)

That's great! I've been trying to get into one of these things for the longest time. The mini needs a lot of work though, and so do my camera skills. But lol, first, Lurtz has to win! And silly me voted for Dalamyr, assuming I could pick it up on Amazon lol

I've set it up so you can change who you vote for as I understand people change their minds. So if you voted for the wrong option you can just change it to the correct one.

Would an ordinary goblin be a good Durburz?

I voted for Lurtz, but plan on giving him a different look than the standard...now I just need to locate him (if he wins that is. :) )

I voted for Lurtz, I'm already in the middle of painting the version with a sword and shield but my Amon Hen box arrived yesterday.

Generally speaking, any similar figure (same race, same faction, same look) is a suitable alternative if you're unable to paint the desired mini.

So yes a standard goblin would be acceptable, but Durburz would be preferred (with second choices most likely being armoured goblins or captains).
