Post subject: | Reminder: December Painting Challenge |
Whilst the November challenge continues I am going to remind you all that there will not be a poll to decide on the theme for the December Challenge as it will be a winter themed challenge to coincide with the festive season. Your entries next month can be anything as long as it has a clear winter theme (this can be anything as little as having some snow on the base of your miniature or something more extreme). Also if you want to you can add a festive theme to your entry (as an example you can give a goblin a santa hat and a candy cane). This will be the second 'Special' Painting Challenge. This will be a set challenge theme however following 'Special' Painting Challenges will continue to be decided by a community poll. I thought it would be best to post this now to give people some time to gather any supplies they might need for their entry and to give time to think about your ideas. I know I'll need a while to plan what I'm going to do for this so there's a chance you might too. If you have any questions running up to December 1st, post them here or PM me. |

However the most effective way in my opinion is to mix Baking Soda (you can buy this at pretty much any supermarket) with PVA Glue to create a substance which when applied and left to dry, will make a realistic looking snow. Here's how my attempt at the baking soda/pva glue mix turned out: |

What kind of ratio do you use for your snow? Just a little baking soda to glue, 1:1 or what? I've been thinking of buying ready-made snow like GW's but applying PVA + baking soda mix with a brush sounds very convenient. -- Pasi |

I'll be honest I couldn't remember as it was a while ago now I tried this method, so I just did a couple of quick tests and 1:1 has given the same effect I've shown above if that helps. If you try it and don't get the effect you're looking for, just add a small amount of baking soda to a blob of PVA glue, mix it in and then keep adding small amounts of soda until you get a mix you're happy with. |

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I was also thinking a certain scene with the Fellowship, but I really want to stick to something "lighter". I have an idea and am just waiting for the chance to post my proof pic. |

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I wasn't actually planning on doing it myself, but... if I could just temporarily attach the decorations to the Ent, then maybe. |

Hmm,this sounds fun Red, but I think i have to turn this down, unless i put a santa hat on a Mordor Uruk or Carn Dum Barbarian, but thats a big 'if'. However,I will be fascinated to see what others makeof it and will stay tuned. |

oooh looking forward to this! Will certainly be using the snow idea, thanks for the ingredients list Jake Christmas Ent is a fantastic idea! Does this have to be a miniature or could it possibly be a terrain piece? |

I know what I am doing, and its ambitious. The proof pics can't be until the first day of the challenge correct? Can one begin to put the pieces together before that just so long as there is no paint on model--or must it be started from scratch? |

It can be undercoated I think. Other than that, yes, you cannot have any paint on the model before the challenge starts. |

IsleStaggerholm wrote: The proof pics can't be until the first day of the challenge correct? Correct. And Elros is right in saying the proof pic just has to be of the miniature pre-painted or undercoated. |
