Thought I'd show you guys what I've been up to lately. This is my Dark Elf wash-army, using (and abusing) as much of the new GW foundation paints and citadel washes. Almost everything I've painted so far is painted in a way of basecoat, flat layer, wash, single highlight in the same colour as the previous layer.

Anyways, on to the pictures :)

Dark Riders:

Crossbows:

Knights:

Knights, had one pair of legs missing, so I bought the metal dreadlord as champion. It's a nice model and I wanted to paint it anyways

WIP shots of the knights:

This is a shot to show how much wash I use (yes, I simply soak them :P )
Image

And this is a shot of what they look like when the wash has dried up (before highlighting a single time)

Master on Cold One:

Knights together as a unit:

And a master on dark steed, built for a low point tourney:

Based on the Van Carstein nightmare.

Harpies:

Here's a WIP shot of the harpy next to a crossbow warrior (for size comparison)

Master on Manticore:

Few WIP shots of my Black Dragon:

Here you can see the scales, these are so annoying to sculpt.

And an overall view of the dragon. You can really see him shaping up.

You can see the small armourplates on top of the wings pretty well here:

And without the character:

Reaper Bolt Thrower:

And some individual closeups:

I took this picture to show the greenstuffed area, to blend in the cloak to the hood a bit

WOW

they are simply amazing to say the least, to the point where I am going to steal the idea for your hero on the von carstein nightmare; didn't like the skull head but now I see that bretonnian horse head could come in use (think its a pegasus).

That dragon is superb by the way.

I'm not at all into Warhammer or 40k but I do like looking at the models sometimes and Wow, you have some great paint jobs in there and the conversion work is excellent! Nicely done!! :)

Man, that is some sweet work, especially the Dark Riders and Shades.

Only gripe, and it's a personal thing, is the round base for the Bolt Thrower.

@ Gwaryan - Thanks for the compliment, It's a simpl4e conversion. I simply cut the Nightmare's head of with a modelling saw, and replaced it with a Bretonnian Pegasi head. I clipped it down a bit, then pinned it in place with two pins (leaving some space inbetween the neck and the body), and then filled it with greanstuff.
However, what I dislike about this model, is that the legs are too large. If I would do a second conversion of these, I would dremel off the legs and replace them with something else.

@ BilboOfTheWhiteTower - You have to like Fantasy at some point ;) . Thanks for the reply and the compliment.

@ Gaarew - The BRB only states that the models should stand in front of their warmachine when attacked.
The boltthrower itself isn't even supplied with a base!

However, HE great eagles are supplied with large round flying bases. Square bases are only there for unit coherency.

Thanks for the compliment!

Yup, I know. I've seen, and owned many warmachines that came with a round base. It's just, for me, Warhammer minis should all be on square bases. Kinda like the fact I never liked the old 40k pictures of daemons when they had them on square bases.

Warhammer = square
40k = round.

Like I said, it's a small personal gripe, it doesn't have any in game effect, or detract from the model in any way.

I personally like round bases a lot more that square bases, just because it looks a lot better IMO.

However, I understand that you like it a lot better to have your game systems sorted. I personally think a round base looks a lot neater + it's more scenic than a square base. So for modelling purposes, I much prefer round bases.

But yes, it's personal preferance. If that's the only thing you do not like about my army, I am satisfied :) . Thank you for your reply.

I do like my round bases, look neater to me...however, when playing a game and trying to move 20 ork boys in the same direction i almost wish for some square/rectangular bases and movement trays :-D

Stunning Models. Really enjoyed seeing the dragon come together.... with some inspiring green work on the scales... are you actually sculpting all that or do you use a tool to press it out?

Thanks much for the post... No complaints from me... I wish all the DE players that kicked the @#$% out of me every time I play my Lizzies would do it with such style. hate getting beaten by the ugly painted buggers. (Stinking stat creep... can't wait until the Feb Lizzie book)

@ Midloo - The scales were made of little balls of greenstuff, pressed flat with a sculpting tool, then sculpted to the apropriate shape.

What do you field in your lizardmen/does your opposing DE player field?

And, a small UPDATE!:

I finished the assassin, he keeps on chipping even after 3 thin varnish layers. Pics are crappy but they'll do for now. I'll take better ones when my camera's fixed (need to take it back to the store for minor lense repair).

So, pictures :D

Image
Yes, yes, I missed a moldline, bottom hood :P

Image

pics are overlit and make the model seem to be a bit more shiny than he actually is.

C&C is appreciated, as usual, and I'm trying to get myself motivated to paint the last 5 units for 2250 points.

Nice, I like it. Not my favorite assasin model though. Pose I mean.

What's the last 5 units?

I keep having impure thoughts about starting up a new WH army...

last few units are:
10 crossbows
5 dark riders
hydra
sorceress
reaper bolt thrower (I need 2 of these)
And of course, paint the master on c.o and the lord on dragon.

About the impure thoughts of starting another WH army, I just bought a WoC army book and a box of warriors and knights.... you're not the only one!
