Does anyone know any methods on how to cast walls/buildings? I know there is one article about it, but it said it wouldn't be appropriate for straight things etc.. So if anyone knew it would be very handy.

You should make a silicone mould rather than a latex one. I would advise a 2 piece mould so that it will show detail on both sides or you could use a 1 piece mould, stick the two halves together and then put something on top to hide the join.

This of course depends on what size and type of walls you are trying to make. If it's just little rustic walls to go around fields then a 1 piece latex mould would be fine.

I would think so. Ive seen some of the huge bits of resin people cast for model aircraft and they use silicone.

I have been following your progress on the church. I think this will help. Start with a clean surface. Professionals use glass. I use wood. Paper will work. Attach the wall to the surface. Coat the surface of the wall with the latex mold material. You can use your fingers. Make sure you extend the latex boarder for at least one inch. Use at least 3 coats. Allow one hour between each coat. Some people add cheese cloth at this point to make the mold stronger,This is optional. Let it dry over night and add 2 more coats.

Now you need to build a box around it. Then pour the plaster back up. This is the critical part because this what supports the latex and keeps the mold from stretching out of shape Make sure this pour is level because the wall castings are thin.



This mold is ready for the box to be built around it. You can see the latex boarder around the out side, The wood helps to keep the mold square and level. When I clamp the box around the block I won't have to worry about leaks.



This photo shows the latex mold, the plaster casting, and the plaster back up. This is about the limit for a one piece back up. The deep eye sockets make the castings difficult to remove. If I was going to make more than a hand full I would need to make the latex thicker and separate the back up into at least two pieces



This is a commercial mold. This is thick enough not to need a back up.

I am glad that helped. It is very hard to give general advice on something like Mold making.

For your church wall the latex will allow a one piece seamless cast. However, The buttresses are very wide and deep. This will cause the casting to break if you do not make your back up box correctly. This will not be complicated or difficult just very specific.

Yep I've looked into more detail & got what i needed. That's a good site with lots of tips on it, don't worry I've bookmarked it.

Another option is Smooth-On's Moldmaking and Casting Kit. I'm not sure if it's the best idea for walls, as it is pretty time consuming and expensive, but I used it to cast my trebuchet, with excellent results...
