I'm after sculpting conversions... thanks for your respsonses. Feel bad thats theres not much text here for you taking the effort in clicking this thread, there will be cake for the best response

From what I have heard from amateur, semi-pro and pro sculptors, procreate is far superior. It dries harder than greenstuff and still holds heaps of detail. I think it might be less sticky too.

Well, I've already planned to go to the UK (Scotland, Ireland, warhammer world in Nottingham

) for a break after I finish school before going to uni. :-D

I know its sort of late but I am going to throw in my response as well. I prefer pro-create as well though as its easier to blend and doesnt rip as easily. This is of course straight just pure proc-create vs gs though both can be mixed with other putties to get different properties and its worth experimenting. But anyway i think you made the right choice.

I think its very ambitious to convert all your rank-and-file to have mail, but definitely worth a shot if you've got enough time, patience and enough cash for putty.

I do think you should practice sculpting mail links substantially before putting it on your elves. Also, it may look a little odd if you simply put the putty straight on top of the scale armour and on top of the plates...If I were you I would scrape the scales off before sculpting.

But then, this is a WotR army, and you may get sick and tired of continually putting lots of work into all your troops. :-D

tbh I intend in having around 100+ models of Galadhrim Warriors and see peoples point with regards to time. Time isn't really an issue, i mean i have commitments but it will just mean my army will take longer to make. At the same time of wanting a personal army that looks impressive i want to ENJOY doing it, i think resculpting that many Galadhrim Warriors will turn into a chore more than anything :S

So i have decided not to bother; it would have been fun doing the first box i think but after that, not so sure.. each time i buy a box of warriors i have to

cast 8 shields, 8 swords and 2 heads
do some minor sculpting to repair lost material due to hacking away swords handles
re-position 2 model poses, and sculpt knew upper arms/shoulders

.

Which is plenty of work i think for now

That work alone is going to really take some time but will do more, IMHO, to set your force aside than the armor redo. The weapon/shield change will really be unique.

I am stepping away from my Elves for a while but when I revisit them and start adding Galadrhim I am going to be adding shields, but I didn’t consider doing all the other work you are looking at…just thought about adding shields in such a way that doesn’t look TOO bad considering the way they are holding their swords. Your work is going to look great at the Formation level for sure.

I generally work with ProCreate for my commission sculpts. I find it less rubbery than GS and easier to see the details. It also hold edges better than GS but not as good as Brown Stuff mind. I occassionally use GS though on larger models if I'm getting low on the ProCreate stock. Having said that the best mix I have ever used is GS mixed with Milliput superfine white. But I can't usually be bothered to mix it all up!

Argh i have two options i can buy a bunch of supplies for £15 from one store (including Green stuff) OR buy my things from 2 stores and repalce GS with Procreate for a total of £22. Is procreate in a completely different league than GS that its worth another £7 quid to get hold of?

Meh, im' a bit undecisive! can you tell!?

For reference i have no recent experience sculpting, and i'm just using it to repair models from conversions (filling in gaps of pinned arms etc)

Don't know. I've never used regular milliput.

IMO Dave, ProCreate is the better sculpting putty, but if all you want it for is to gap fill or do a bit of chainmail then GS will be fine. Apply the green stuff while it is sticky, then leave to cure for 5 mins before you push/pull the chainmail holes. This will help prevent it sticking to your sculpting tool, although you will still need to moisten the tip regurlarly.

Orite thanks mate, nah i won't be changing the mail. Too much hassle really. I'll be using it to rebuild some armour on the shoulders (due to arm re-positioning) and re-sculpt parts of the cloaks.
